My little Iron Ranger {Part 2}

Congrats!! I am glad it is all working out for ya! Lets see some finished pictures!

I guess I'm not done yet. The liquid gasket on the seal worked for a while, but the gear oil managed to work it's way out, and I fear it may be getting close to the clutch material, since I saw a mixture of clutch dust and oil on the lip of the bellhousing fork openning.

This tranny has been nothin' but a money pit. I think what I'm going to have to do is buy a brand new one since I can't get a new case anymore(I think the bearing cap hole is worn out, hence why gear oil is leaking from there.)

I don't know. Besides that and a small oil leak in the rear main seal, everything seems to work perfectly.

So maybe you can address that rear main seal when the trannys out? I would think you would be able to sell the trans to a transmission shop and use the money towards a new one.

BTW, that's awesome that your brother helps you out so much.

Oh jeez, I didn't realize that some people responded to this yet. Sorry, didn't see the last 2 guys. :icon_twisted:

Progress? Hotter cam, bigger injectors, 73mm MAF, new WC tranny, bigger rims/tires. That's on the list so far. The tranny comes first since it made a mess under the truck from the constant leaking.

It wasn't the rear main seal, seems there was ONE FLIPPIN' HOLE :annoyed: right over the leaky cap bearing on the bellhousing that the high strength liquid gasket didn't seal all the way, so it looked like motor oil and the clutch dust masked the distinct odor of gear oil.:dunno:

It is awesome that he helped me. I did the fab work, he did the technical stuff. He has a much better understanding of mechanical and electrical components than I do. He could wire a toaster to bake a pizza if he wanted to.:D He's going to help with the cam and injector swap while I work on saving for the new transmission.

You should see his Dodge (neon) SRT-4. He's done so much to that car, electrical and mechanical. 320HP on a turbo 2.4 4-banger.

I must get the truck to go that fast............................................. :icon_thumby:

Well, thats it. The winter weather is here and the ol' girl is back in storage. But that doesn't mean I've stopped aquiring needed parts for it.

To start, I ordered a new valance from LMC Truck to replace the old, broken one. I got the one with the driving light holes cut out of it.

It's got that "GT" look to it that I've always liked. Some other ones on the list are new mirrors, driving lights, altezza tail lights, and a few odds and ends.

But first, I got to get that cam swap. I think my brother opted for the F-303 cam.

Also when the taxes come back, I'll buy a new, rebuilt T-5 from Astro performance.

i can see you in the storage room tinkering away on it....

Well, now the winter ambition disease is setting in. Time for me to work on stuff for the truck without the truck in front of me.

I'm starting off with the overflow coolant tank, don't care much for the factory plastic one, and I need to make room on that side for my ignition box & coil.

Got started with some 1/4" aluminum "I know, highly overkill, but it's the only thing at work I could find for free."

That is, after the old man told me he had lots of 1/8" aluminum at home:annoyed:, well, now you tell me!!

Here's what I got so far:

I knew God gave me this TIG welding ability for something!! :D

Geez, it's been awhile!!! That aluminum tank idea is not going to happen. I looked real hard under the hood to find more room, and found that I can move the factory coolant tank over a few inches. Should be enough for what I want to do.

Next in the plans: found a place where I can get a legit 75MM MAF for $182, and with my tax returns, buy a world class T-5(you know, one without a wornout leaky case?) and a complete cam swap kit from JEGS. E-303, roller lifters, spider hold down, and dogbones for $400. Also gonna chop the body lift in half just to lower it to a more street stance.

A few more months of this stupid freezing weather, and it'll be time...............

NICE i just spent a grip of time reading this and dont mind at all im getting ready to start this process on my b2 and well lets just say i dont have the skill you and your brother have.. lol very informational!

nice ride man...it turns out way better when your patient and determined to do it right!!! cant wait to see this baby in the show off section!

Thanks!!!

As soon as my additional upgrades are done, it'll be up there with video(if I can find a friend with a digital camera).

Let the games begin!!!!!!

I decided to take matters into my own hands! My brother is taking his sweet time ordering the camshaft, so I decided to go to Summit Racing and order a set of KC allweather driving lights for the lower air dam. They came today!!! :yahoo::yahoo:

I think after a little trimming, it'll fit just like factory. :icon_thumby:

Next up is some new mufflers. The Thrush ones work, but it's just TOO quiet. I'm thinking Flowmasters.....................................

I've also purchased a TRUE WC T-5 transmission from Ranger SVT to replace my leaky NWC tranny. I won't have this problem on the WC because where the leak is on the NWC, the WC has an o-ring to prevent leaks past the case on the gear cluster bearing.

I've started cleaning it up with a product called Duplicolor Surface Prep, that I've never used before, and I got amazing results with it in very little time. This stuff works 100X better than brake parts cleaner! :icon_thumby:

I just got done shooting it with some Duplicolor Filler primer. Gonna let it dry for a day before I lay down the Ford Blue!! :icon_thumby:

Well, just got done putting on the coats of Ford Blue!! :icon_thumby:

Some of you may think; why take the time and paint a transmission?

I say; why not? It's gotta look at least once, right? :D

After the Duplicolor filler primer:

Just gotta replace the output shaft seal, re-RTV the input retainer (just to make sure) and then she's ready to be installed!! :yahoo:

Cam, lifters, and roller conversion are on the way...............
