i might just say f it and get an ipad, my mom got one and i use it all the time its deadly

You can fix that for about $30. All you need is the frame for the LCD screen. I recently replaced the one on my Dell Inspiron. Looks brand new now.

Give me the Brand/Model and I'll see if I can find the part for it.

thanks man, its the hp pavillion dv9000

I was going to say the same thing about being able to just buy the part. My advice would be to either contact HP directly or someone like best buy. They have a parts section...It used to be at the bottom of there website...I've used it a few times.

lol.. who does that?

I just took the spring thing out of my old dell and gave it to the wife still works great just kinda flimzy lol I bought a new toshiba

uh oh, time to break out the duck tape.....it'll give it character and make it look classy

Actually I'd estimate that as THREE major parts.
1) an LCD back cover (the screw pillar that the screw that the front bezel and the hinge mount to is busted off)
2) An LCD front bezel.
3)Switchpanel/Hinge cover

And two minor parts
the HINGES which are obviously galled and sticking or the plastic stuff wouldn't have broken in the first place

and though I can't see it in the pictures there are metal strips on either side of the LCD which are screwed to the hing and the one on the side of the messed up hinge is likely bent beyond easy straightening...

And it seems a few screws are missing.
All stuff you can get on ebay for $70 depending on how patient you want to be about buying and shipping.

It's often a better deal to look for a "dead cause unknown" organ donor
that is in cosmetically good shape to aquire other spares you'll eventually need...

Like THIS ONE:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Hp-Pavilion-DV9...62038107?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item2eb26dd55b

$68 (+$13shipping) with ~9hours to go at the time I'm typing this reply...

Or THIS ONE:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-Pavilion-Dv9...11356617?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item2a0d4697c9

$48 plus $16sh UNBID with 1day 19hr to go

there are others but you can look yourself.

I recommend an organ donor...

I did that when I got my (broken at aquisition) Dell1525.
the only problem I had with my "organ donor" dell was in
about 15minutes of fiddling I made the phucker work and I was promptly talked into selling it as a working computer and had to buy other replacement parts... (I came out ahead by ~$125 plus a factory new 320gb drive

lol, my parents for one. I'm helping them look for the same part right now for an Acer.

What model Acer? I have an Acer notebook that's cosmetically clean but
rather DEAD (something in the DC in circuitry (NOT the internal power cable, I tried that ))

I'm not sure, I'd have to look.

Theirs had a problem like that too...It was the internal input jack for the charger though.

My Acer on the other hand has been awesome. It's one of the "better" ones and I can't complain!

You could also just plug in an external monitor, rip that broken crap off, and duct tape the lcd monitor to the base...that would be a true Canadian laptop...then all you need is a power inverter for your truck and you could be like that Black Knight guy...Mike Dusseldork or whatever his name was...

The Acer I have sitting here has 18v at the end of the charger cable
It has 18V at both ends of the internal power cable (from the jack to the connector on the MoBo) if the cable is actually connected TO the MoBo on the solid metal backside pins on the connector it measures as 2.8V.

Therefore there is some sort of internal short in the power circuitry,
it is not a connector/cable issue.

If it's anything like my Dells, that I've fixed, he'll only need to order the bezel. It cost me $30ish bucks, plus shipping, and came with everything but the LCD screen.

It's usually all one piece.

I would have replied sooner but I had to replaced the HDD in my computer.:annoyed:

Open eyes and LOOK.

I have several Dell's and they are the same (form follows function) as that, but the bezel screws
go SOMEWHERE. that "somewhere" is THROUGH the Hinge and into a screw pillar (with a molded
in place brass insert) the piller is CLEARLY seen as snapped off.

As a Note:
It's NEVER, NEVER, NEVER "just the bezel" the broken Bezel is a symptom of a broken screw post
in the back cover which is in turn a symptom of a sticky hinge.

Replacing "just the bezel" will result in breaking another $25 bezel

This is a common problem, with recognizeable symptoms with PICTURES so you can SEE what is
actually broken, but you have to look at the OP's pictures...

As for the guy who said "just break it off" the WiFi antenna is in the back cover too...
"breaking it off" might just break something else, probably something you need.
