my laptop split in half!

thanks man, its the hp pavillion dv9000
eBay. Seriously. Like ufgators, I have fixed MANY a Dell Latitude with eBay parts.

I'll bet I've rebuilt 6-8 D600s over the past couple years, for a sum total of maybe $200 in parts.

I've got a D600 dell in pieces, but I'm not trying to fix it. It's the parts dog for the 600M I gave to my Mother awhile back...

I'm willing to bet the "Dead" LCD I replaced in August could be resurected with a new "inverter" board (the power supply for the Flourescent Display backlight

pfft, while i was working for BART, ive fixes dozens of laptops, mainly older models. these were used out in the field to diagnose BART trains and were bound to get droped. i repaired a celeron acer that has the same damage as yours with JB weld :D not like i could find parts for a 10 year old acer though.

Worked for me. Took one from a truly dead LCD (cracked) and fixed it right up.

It's just gonna keep breaking. I had the same computer and that happened to me too. It was one side first, so I had friend make a piece of stainless that I replaced it with. Then the other side broke. So I bought one off eBay for like $8. Then the hinge on the first side broke. Then the other one did too.

Do a little looking on Google, it's more than common.

Open eyes and LOOK.

I have several Dell's and they are the same (form follows function) as that, but the bezel screws
go SOMEWHERE. that "somewhere" is THROUGH the Hinge and into a screw pillar (with a molded
in place brass insert) the piller is CLEARLY seen as snapped off.

As a Note:
It's NEVER, NEVER, NEVER "just the bezel" the broken Bezel is a symptom of a broken screw post
in the back cover which is in turn a symptom of a sticky hinge.

Replacing "just the bezel" will result in breaking another $25 bezel

This is a common problem, with recognizeable symptoms with PICTURES so you can SEE what is
actually broken, but you have to look at the OP's pictures...

As for the guy who said "just break it off" the WiFi antenna is in the back cover too...
"breaking it off" might just break something else, probably something you need.

Ok, whatever... you don't have to be a dick about it.

I know what I bought for my computer and one other and it was listed as the BEZEL. Even on the DELL site it was listed as the BEZEL. Forgive me for not being a know-it-all dick such as yourself.

Well, I'm only concerned with using the LCD on the working laptop because on the "organ donor" the video controller on the MoBo is FRIED, it displays the same "herringbone pattern" when connected to an external monitor.

Not sure I follow: I thought you were wondering about the inverter. Did I not read that correctly? :icon_confused:

FYI, I have found refurbed backlight and inverter combos on eBay for like $20 with a 30 day warranty. If you have a known-good LCD, problem solved. That's the way I've gone a few times, other times just pieced it all together because I had enough donors to cobble it together.

Yeah, it's a "Dead" screen because I believe the inverter is dead, but it's the takeoff screeen from the "Good" laptop

The "Dead laptop" (the parts laptop) is DEAD for other causes
