My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

interesting that it would be 20 more hp... that rating would be over stock, where as your injectors are old gummed up and probably not atomizing properly to begin with... the 4 port injectors would atomize much better, which will make a faster and more even burn of the fuel you use, as such, you will less HC in your emissions readings (if you have emissions tests) and an increase in your mpg

i would think atleast

I am thinking the same thing... I don't know if just bigger injectors would pop 20 more horses out of a 2.3 or not but I guess it could be worth a shot... My 4.0 is more responsive with the updated injectors.. I am hoping for more MPG!
It kills me that todays V6 puts out more HP than a BB back in the day... but HP doesn't much matter without torque..

agreed! my 5L mustang stock is rated at something like 225hp 300ft/lbs where as my 4L sohc ranger is 207hp 238lb-ft, still though, my ranger doesn't hold a candle to the speed of my mustang... and my mustang has 2.73's where as my ranger has 4.10's...

my mustang doesn't have a whole lot different than stock, the intake is apparently port polished, but i'm not so sure... it's got a bigger maf, which greatly increased throttle response, i figure 15hp off of that plus a few other little nicknacks here and there...

You have to admit though Ford did a hell of a job with the 4L....

not for the numbers they claim it has, compared to my mustang with very close numbers... and not for the fuel economy of the displacement... it's not a BAD motor, it's done most things i've asked it to, but it could be better... and it's sad that i'm saying the above about a push rod motor being better...

I agree with ya... it's a fun little motor still... :D

for OHC, a decent displacement, distributor less ignition and 23 more years of engineering, this motor should have MUCH more power than it does, based off of what they did in the mustangs in the 80's... i would have built it much better...

Are you fellows talking about the same 4L?

Because I'm pretty impressed with my OHV 4.0, it makes as-near-as-makes-no-difference the same torque at a lower RPM. Admittedly hp is down but your engine is definitely the revver out of the 2.

yeah we're both talking about the SOHC, i'm not comparing the 4L to the 4L i'm just saying that the 4L SOHC should have more power, compared to the mustang 5L which put out much better numbers... 23 years ago... and only 1L difference, granted that 1L equals a 20% difference in displacement... but with the evolution of electronics, engineering, and simply the addition of the overhead cam, in my opinion, the 4L SOHC, should have more power and torque than the 5L from the 80's and not only should those numbers be public, but they should show in actual performance...

the numbers car manufactures put out now a days don't make sense to me... there's been a few cars that are 240hp and 300 torque, pull up next to my mustang, virtually the same numbers, they are favored in hp, and have 15 years on me and probably 200,000km less on the clock, and i still SMOKE them! it honestly just doesn't make sense to me...

Power to weight, look at all the safety crap, electronics, and other junk that goes into vehicles today.

not much difference in say 10 years the 92 ranger curb weight is 2820lbs and the 2002 is 2,988 on a standard cab 4x2 not much gain in 10 years but it is a gain..

I meant more in cars, trucks dont have as much junk since they're meant more as work vehicles.

I agree with ya.. on both cars and trucks... The use of aluminum in the rangers and F series and some cars from what I hear help keep the weight down some.. I bout threw a late model F150 hood over my head once not knowing it was aluminum... I seen an old school Caprice classic years ago with an aluminim hood almost threw it over my head lifting it too... I have never seen another one since that one....

Oh a guy here at work asked a group of us who all own Rangers what is it about them that make them so great.. We told him you'll have to go buy one to understand...

Added a set of Pyle 6.5" speakers to the doors... Got a set coming for the rear Monday!!
