My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

Well Friday I installed the new vapor canister, purge valve and TPS. I set the voltage to .91 closed using the Snap On scanner. Saturday morning I pulled the interior out to fix the tranny leak. put it all together then filled her up. I drove 42 miles exactly then filled her back up. it took 1.5 gallons of fuel. did the math on the I Pod.. = 28 MPG :shok::shok: :yahoo: :shok: :icon_surprised:

Well checked it again and it was getting 19 MPG.. Pulled the thermostat out and changed it. the one I put in it was a 198.. Put a 195 in it this time... it almost seems the MPGs tanked when I changed the thermostat a while back...

I'd be looking at the computer itself, don't do a reset after you change the thermostat, and see what kind of MPG's your getting, if it doesn't change then I would be checking the computer.

Just my 2cents.

Ok so I drove 95 miles and it burned 9 gallons of fuel... I am at my wits end with this thing... She may be for sale very soon.. I am tired of dealing with it....

I hate to sound like a broken record (does anyone remember those) but I would change the computer.

AND if you still get bad mileage, then go with the 302, might as well have the extra HP with that kind of bad fuel mileage.

multi, just be patient my friend. leave the truck alone for a few days and focus on something else.

you dont wanna just give the truck up because of something like that, you WILL kick yourself in the nuts after a month or two

take a break from it. do some housework or yardwork. than when your head is clear. then go back and tinker with it.

im banking on the computer too. for you too get 28 mpg then after the computer relearns the system to get 19. somethings not right,

if anything, it should be the other way around.

I just don't want to guess what the problem is.. If I bought a ECM and that didn't fix the fuel MPGs then I am out that money that could be spent on something else like finishing up the interior.. The thing is it runs perfectly.. No codes present and she is as strong as Superman.. I just don't get it.. I could see it if it ran bad but it purrs like a kitten... Actually I just came in from planting flowers out in the yard soooo I am trying to be as patient as I can.. Thanks for all the support guys!

grab an ecm from the jy, then return it if it doesn't work "fookin thing is broken"

The AC lines had Ice all over them ater driving about 18 miles so I picked up a new AC pump cycle switch.. Maybe the AC running all the time had something do do with the MPGs :dunno:

It's possible, but I couldn't imagine a Loss of 10mpg resulting
Just from the a/c

Wow a light just turned on upstairs (it's a light I thought was broken, so I better get this out quick) if it runs well, and there's lots of power (no loss of power) logically it doesn't seem like a problem with the truck it's self.... Do you maybe have a fuel leak somewhere?

Check the fuel reg, pull the vac line off and put a tube on it and suck, (engine running) see if you get a gas taste in that tube....) that could cause a drop in fuel Econ, with minimal/no performance effects, and no smell...

Fwiw, my ranger's fuel neck was leaking and I couldn't smell it, same with my 250's rear tank, leaked like a siv, I lost a half a tank of gas over night (though I saw the massive puddle and could hear it draining gas...)

I would be happy with 19mpg with that truck and also having a 4.0. My truck sees 10mpg in town no matter how I drive it (gets 15mpg on the highway and thats extremely rare that I highway drive it). If I got 15mpg in town I would be smiling ear to ear.

I would say that if the AC lines had ice on them with the AC off, theres a problem there. How cold are you going for inside the truck anyways?

Above all don't get rid of her.....a piris isnt worth it.

i got 350km to the last tank, and i don't remember what it is to fill... 65-70 liters? someone do some math for me...

this next tank i get, i'll be as gentle as possible to see what i can get out of it
