i have a 92 ranger i own it its mine and it has no rust.
so of course im going to deck it out, i am wanting to do a few thiings but not
turbo or boring it out. everyone tells me in the 2.3 all the powers in the heads
they say if i port and polish them it would be a huge hp gain. im not so sure
but heres what i want to do, i want it to be kinda quick and still good on gas

stock n/a 2.3
4.56 gears with 225/70/r14 tires
.450 lift cam
port and polished heads,intake manifold
racing headers
cold air intake
hi-flow cat with straight pipes

any ideas to add or things you think are not so good, please tell

There's your problem, drop a turbo or v8 and your problem is solved.

not really, u can do alot with a NA 2.3 but it does take some money and premium only will do, your going to need oversized valves, higher compression etc, ive built 2.3s that will give u about 220 to the rear wheels, but that was also 12-1 compression massive amounts of head work and carburated.

it would be more cost effective to find a turbo coupe factory 2.3 turbo or a v8 swap

unless ur friends with a machinist

Why put money in a 4 cyl?? Drop a better motor in it, Bro. Spend the money you would spend on it for a swap. Problem solved!!!! You will be much happier, Bro.

Nuthin at all wrong with a turbo four. :icon_thumby:

Better on gas around town than a V8 to boot.

stock n/a 2.3...

port and polished heads
racing headers
might want to look under the hood and count some stuff.

coming from the guy who threw a bitch fit just a few days ago about people wanting to swap out a 2.9?

Ok...turbo 4 as long as it is done really good....I could go for that!!!

if i can get 140 - 180 out of this i would be happy...i am very picky i dont want turbo or a v8, and the problem is theres no turbo 2.3 anywhere around where i live or i would go turbo with one swap. but no matter i want a n/a 2.3 i think with the 4.56 gears and 14'' tires i can dust anything on the streets around me and i want to say i did it with out turbo or a v8

unfortunately the gears you are going to use will give unholy off the line acceleration but not top end and with the smaller tires it will only be compounded what is the stock gear ratio in it now? depending on ratio i would possibly go other direction a little to get more top end or maybe a 15" tire. just my opinion thanks

I was thinking the same thing as I know that my 2.3 only has a single head & a single factory header.

There's a lot of potential from a 2.3 & turborangersforum.com covers a lot of stuff & also has several turbo items available to purchase.

Ive heard that the 96 & newer heads are better then the previous years for flow & larger valves.

Before my n/a engine poops out i will be building me a another 2.3 that will be built to be turbo ed or find a factory turbo block ,as Im told that the 8 plug head is better then the 4 plug head.

The head that came on any of the Ford factory 2.3s were 4 plug version.

Like said, seen a lot of the 2.3's in Mustangs run fantastic but sure not cheap. It's always a compromise in wishes, wants, needs and the old pocket book Check around on some of the Stang sites or that forum (turborangersforum.com) sugested above.

EFI 5.0's are like 170-180whp out of the box.....

They are cheap and plentiful....

And there is nothing impressive about a NA 4 cylinder in a pickup, no matter how fast it is... I'm sorry. (I know this is just personal opinion, but what it boils down to is you will always want to go faster)

Say you get 230hp out of tons of head work, headers, intake, valves, came, etc, etc, etc... It will set you back thousands honestly.... and then you will be at the limit of the motor.

My 5.0 is currently putting out over 250whp and 300+ Tq with a bone stock 5.0 and a 5PSI blower. I have a box filled with a new cam, entirely new valvetrain, 8PSI Supercharger pulley, etc, etc, etc..... and I STILL have room for improvement after all that's installed....

My origional 5.0 swap was less than $1000 and I still get decent MPG.

if your gunna build a 2.3...turbo is the only way to go.

my old set up.

320hp and 380trq, all on stock computer and 100% stock longblock.

i dont know...i might do a 5.0 swap:icon_confused: i was just looking for least down time on my truck, i was gonna buy a new head and work on it over time and was wanting the ending head to be what i listed. but i am still thinking that why i like talking with you guys...i could get 1000$ in 4 months of saving. i like the sound of a v8 or a 4 banger but id lose a lot of mpg

Grrrrr someone make this choice easy for me damnit:bawling:

3.73 or 3.43 im not sure the axle code is 87 or 86
