My First Truck

Quick question, and I'm sure you guys looked into it already... but did you weld a straight bead along where you joined the old frame and the new piece, or did you make a diagonal weld?

haven't actually welded the new piece on yet but which would be better
i was just going to do a straight bead. but im open to suggestions

Diagonal is the preferred method for frame alterations and repairs. Much stronger.

Yep, lookin' good! As jason said though, diagonal bead for sure, you don't want your frame cracking! Especially there, as your suspension bolts to that section.

finished welding the frame a couple of weeks ago finally got around to uploading the pics today

please tell you youre going to plate that area of the frame. vertical welds on frame rails are a HUGE no no.

impressive work man!!
nice to see a 2wd truck gettin that much work lol.

and +1 on reinforcing the welded areas on the frame.

+485734 on reinforcing that welded area, really needs a diamond shape fish-plate on the backside there. But other than that, good work!
