In less than a year my daughter Kali will turn 16. It's hard to believe my little girl is growing up.

My daughter loves driving my Ranger. I use to let her drive it in the small field behind our last house. There was a big mound of dirt that I tought her to drive over. Lining the truck up for the right approach, get her tire up on it, not high centering, felling for the back tire to come up against the obstacle and not bouncing over it. Simple stuff like that. I also let her climb a small hill behind a friends house with it and she's been offroading a few times with me.

Like most kids her age, she's talking about what her first car is going to be.

Vanessa's transmission went bad in her 2001 Honda Civic and was parked for a long time. Vanessa bought a Mitsubishi Galant to drive instead and her Honda is sitting in need of a transmission. My daughter says her freinds are getting new cars (a couple got VW Bugs), but she just wants Vanessa's old Honda. She even told me she'd help me swap the trannys if I found a used one (I need to find a tranny shop to rebuild it).

She's also said she'd like to have her own Ford Ranger. She say's I have (2), Vanessa has (1), and she thinks she should be able to have one of her own as well. Kids 15 and she already wants (2) vehicles.

A couple of days ago she sent me a text that said "So ur sweet daughter is getting off roading on her class ring...". I asked her about her cheerleading and she said was getting cheerleading on (1) side, and offroading on the other.

I actually think it's kind of cool that my daughter wants to be an offroader. I can't wait until she gets her license so I can take her to someplace like Attica and put her behind the wheel.

I have to admit, if I had the money it would be cool to get her a Ranger of her own to start taking offroad. Between her, Vanessa and myself, we could have our own little offroading group. :icon_hornsup:

thats really nice!

its not common that kids share the same hobbies as the fathers, not even girls.

RSH Tip: sell the honda and get her a Ranger :headbang:

Jim your a very lucky man an you raised that girl right!

I'm with RSH on this one, get that girl a ranger! You've got it made there Jim, the wife and daughter both like rangers and off roading. Speaking of which, I haven't seen many updates on either your rig or the wife's.

take her to wellsville where you know there arent really any rules. so she can drive now lol start them as early as possible. my dad did that with me and it was the best thing in my life. blew my first transmission when i was 13 in my dad 94 f250 with a 460 in it :) good memories

I would say you should look for a transmission for that girl and help her fix her car. It will be a good bonding experience and she will be learning how to fix her car.

Then you can get a project ranger for her.

yeah i agree with the fix the Honda then get her a beater ranger!

Well now...the Honda automatics are nothing more than a manual transmission with shift solenoids...from what I've heard. Pretty hard to screw up a rebuild on a trans like that! Why not just get a used Jap trans from Japanese Engine Exchange or somethin like that. And...I agree with everyone else...get that girl a RANGER!!!

i disagree with everyone, she needs a bii. tiny wheelbase=less likely to hit things and easier parking, plus its a ranger she can haul friends in.

just my opinion though

plus you could really use a bii in the fleet, then an explorer and you've got the rbv family covered nicely.

With a good break down printed out in front of you and a table in the garage, anyone can rebuild a Honda transmission. If you have the knowledge and ability to pull the Honda trans you can rebuild it.
And I say find that girl a RBV of some sort. B2's can picked up for $500 for a project. Ex's for $1500. Guy on here has a 96 ex 5 speed in Idaho for $1600 if he still wants to see it. So for a lot less than the other parents with the crappy new VW bugs, your girl gets her two vehicles. Let her get a job If possible and youatch what she puts up to do lift wheels tires lockers things like that

A used automatic for a 2001 Civic is $1,000+, and it could die a month after I put it in. Might as well pay for a rebuild.

Daughter doesn't like b2's, but that looks like a really nice B2 in your avatar.

Daddy/Daughter ranger CREW CAB build? lol

thanks man, rangers are a lil more expensive b/c it's got a truck bed lol... there aint to many here in Missippi to pick up. but i think it'd be worth it to have a project with your daughter. My b2 started as a project for me and my dad, now he's working more but still helps when he can. my b2 was my dad when i was younger and i always wanted one, so when i turned 14 we bought it back from the guy that got it from my dad. its been a great bonding time for me and da and well worth it. it's something i'll never forget and i can look at it and be like, YEP ME AND DAD BUILT THAT. i've loved it. so.. get her a ranger and go it! :icon_cheers:

time to sell that honduh and get her a Ranger boss! :D

I like this idea. However I know its easy for a 16yr old to give up on a project. I gave up on my 64 nova like a bum, dad did most of the work. Wish I could have that one back...
