my broke ass 86 ranger 2.3


Alright, cuz I remember seeing a lot of people on here talking about 500cfm carbs, thanks for the clarification
 
Oh I just thought about this, but if I were to buy the bearing spacers for the 2.5 crank. Would I have to get the stock main bearings replaced as well?
 
I've never bought any of the bearing spacers, but I would think that they are just extra thick main bearings.
 
So I looked at those bearing spacers and it says "Now you can you the new style small journal cranks in the older more common large journal blocks.* These bearing spacers act as a "secondary" set of bearings that are used between the block and the stock small journal bearings. Bearing spacers are reusable.* These spacers are made to order please allow up to 3 days before shipping." So basically I can just put them between the crank amd block?

They should go in just like regular bearings I would think, according to Racer Walsh's website you also have to buy the small journal main bearings to use the spacers. http://www.racerwalsh.zoovy.com/product/RWA1528/Bearing-Inserts-2325.html
 
Not that I know of, a Ford dealer somewhere may have a new oem set of rods collecting dust, for stock 2.5 rods a salvage yard, or engine remanufacturer seems like your only choice. Esslinger sell rods for a 2.5 but you have to use a different forged piston because the rods they sell are 5.700" long (they sell the long rod, and forged piston kit for the 2.5 for $650.00). The stock 2.5 rods are 5.457" long. Looks like the stock 2.5 5.457" long rods are not that popular.
 
so i have made my ultimate decision!

i'm just gonna rebuild the motor and stay as a 2.3 and not stroke it, but i do need some advice because of what happened to it.

i already now i have to hone the cylinders and replace the bottom end gaskets and piston rings... but if i wanted higher compression out of it what would i need to do? i figured i should look into this since i am going to disassemble the block anyway,.

also since it had the gas in the oil for so long should i replace the main bearings? and would changing the crank and rods be a god idea or an unnecessary expenditure?
