I took the truck out for a drive today, got about a mile and half from my house and heard a weird hissing/gurgling sound from under the truck/behind the dash. I pulled into a gas station, parked and hopped out. Look under the truck, and its gushing oil, lots of it. All of it, to be precise. :thefinger:
I open the hood and it looks like there's been an oil explosion centered around the oil filler cap. Upon a bit closer inspection, the PCV valve is popped out of its spot, just dangling around. I paid 60 bucks to get towed a mile and half, because I didn't feel comfortable driving it dry, and don't know anyone with a trailer....:annoyed:

All I can figure is that somewhere there was too much pressure, causing oil and pcv to be expelled...but where, and why?

:dunno:

Perhaps the pvc was/is plugged. That would lead to higher than normal crankcase pressures and maybe blowing out of oil. Replace oil and pvc and vent cap

Oh man, I'm an idiot....

So when I gave the BII an oil change last week, it seems that the gasket from the old oil filter stayed behind on the mating surface...I'm not sure how I missed that, it makes me embarrased to say it, but I did....so the engine started to warm up, the oil pressure rose, and then that old gasket, sandwiched between the new one and the mating surface, blew out, dropping all the oil... :icon_rofl: what a moron.

Now I just gotta hope that I pulled over and killed the motor quick enough, and didn't cause any serious problems for the internals....

Don't feel too bad about that. Usually if you double gasket the oil filter you know in the first few seconds.

And yes, it happens to us professionals often enough that we have a word for it.
