My 91 Ranger the stRanger

hey man,

do you happen to have the measurement from the ground to the bottom of your frame from right behind the cab? trying to draw something up for planning

Ok just measured, right where the cab ends, the bottom of the frame is 26.5 inches from the ground

well that worked out. I had the same measurement on my model. Thanks man, I was hoping for a similar ride height to yours

Well this snowballed

Yeah that's a bit more than just remounting the radiator! Looks like the front coilovers are finished up. How'd they turn out?

I got it back on its weight last night. Only drove it around the the block before tearing the front apart, again.

We got a couple tubes put on. This tied the exo cage into the front of the frame and should add a lot of strength to the cage. From those tubes, I build shock hoop tie ins/braces, and a front bar to support the radiator and hood.

No updates on the tube front yet, we have had high winds the last 2 days. Here is a video of the front coilovers being installed and some mall crawlin before we tore it back apart.

Great looking truck. I was wondering if you could start over how much stuff would you skip? I have a 92 extended cab I'm thinking about building into a rock crawler. I'm starting with full width 44/9inch, explorer 5.0efi and trans. So I'm skipping the d35/8.8 and V6 Lol. Would you start with coils and leafs, or jump straight to coil overs, 4 links and new frame?

That’s really hard to say. I do not regret any stage of how the truck was built because I learned a lot about building, fabricating and driving at each stage. If I started a new rock crawler tomorrow, I would keep the frame and cab and ditch everything else. I would also go straight to coilovers and links. But that is all after many years of wheeling it as coilsprings and leafs.

If I was just building a light duty trail runner and camping truck, I’d leave the engine stock and just do a solid axle swap on it.

Time for a long overdue update

The tube front is finished, and I threw on fiberglass fenders. I’m not sure how I feel about them. I should be painting it soon, maybe it will grow on me more once it’s all one color. Otherwise I still have my metal fenders I can throw back on there.

I also put on fox 2.0 x 2” bumps on the front and limit straps. I need to re run the brake lines still

I have been driving it a few times a week. It handles great with the sway bar, but the rear flex is limited somewhat. I want to try some 100lb upper springs in the rear to loosen the rear up a little, it seems stiff and sits a bit high.

I will begin tuning shocks and bumps here in the near future

I am adding a seat, harness bar and harness this month too

I really dig the front fenders! Truck is simply badass.

Have you ever considered swapping to the factory plastic clutch fan over that heavy metal fan?

This was the stock fan from the bronco that I pulled the engine from, I haven’t thought about a plastic fan, I should look into that.
