My 67 250 build

Is there any difference in strength, or anything between a late 70's 44 or 60 and a late 80's early 90's 44 or 60?

80+ 3/4 ton stuff is TTB, so you will need a solid D60 out of a one ton 86+ for the front if you are going that new.

Update, is anyone's interested. Drums for my front axle are no longer available 12x2.5". I have located a 79 250 front axle, but would have to ship it, he wants 250 for it, I imagine the shipping would be close to that at least, then I would need new brakes and all the other fun stuff. I contacted dynatrac today to see how much a new 44 or 60 front will be. I may just buy a whole new front end, instead of rebuilding one.....

Welp, they don't make a 44 with an 8 lug pattern. The dana 60 from dynatrac is 5400 big ones..... sounds like i'll find a junk yrad one other than Maryland.....

Well first I need an axle.... I want to upgrade from my current closed knuckle coarse spline 44 front to at least a newer open knuckle 44 with discs....

swap in a Dana60. the only 44's i know that will suit what you need are 78/79 F250 and F150 supercab, but then you would need 8lug rotors for it.

axle swap

finished that same swap on a buddys 73 highboy with a 460 converison and power assisted steering.. We used a 77 highboy dana 44 with 1/2" studs and dana 60 from same truck.. bought the whole wreck for 500.. swapped in brake lines and master/booster assembly too. all in a weekend.. you'll need the late 75- 77 dana 44 axles for a donor gear matching is a must..
good luck let me know how it goes and if you can't find one we can see about truck freighting one from over here as a last resort..

axle swap part 2

the 78-79 axle won't work on divorced case trucks cases odd front driveline anglesd and eats up u-joiunts and i own 3 dana 44 8 lug axles all factory ford stuff so they did make them alot of them...

Well, last night I was told about a man with an ooooold junk yard around here, well about 1 hr drive away. All he has is trucks and military, so will be going to check it out in a week or so, maybe he'll have one. If not I would gladly pay frieght for one.

my 69 f250 has the D44 up front. it will stand up to whatever you want to throw at it

do you have the D44 or D44HD?

Brutus, it is the standard 44 from what I can tell, by the 1/2" wheel studs, but has the big 2.5" wide drum brakes. I am looking to upgrade to discs, and a stronger axle at that. Well dang it seems the 79 dana 60 would be what I wanted, but orfordguy says it will cause funny drivline angles...
