I have a 2002 Ranger 3.0, auto, 2WD. It wont turn over. Just rebuilt the engine and reinstalled it. Tested the starter and its good.

When I turn the key on all the dash lights up and beeps and stuff like it should. But when you turn the key to the "start" position nothing happens. No clicking of any kind. The fuel pump comes on still.

Ive checked over all the wiring about 20 times and im confident all the grounds are correct and everything is plugged in as it should be.

NO theft light comes on which makes me think its not the PATS

I've run out of ideas and if someone could please give me some info I would appreciate it

-thanks

I think the theft light is suppose to be flashing........check your OM

I am having the exact same issue. Stuck here at work. Ran fine this morning. I didn't think about the theft light. I just checked mine and it flashes and then when you stick the key in and turn it to the on position it goes out, as it should, right?

I'll be watching this thread to see if we find a solution.

I can hear a relay switch under the dash when I try to start it but other than that nothing. Everything seems normal until you turn the key.

I had a buddy touch two terminals on the starter with a screwdriver and it turns over. And it has spark. And it has fuel pressure But still wont start.
No oil pressure and we had it cranking over for a while. Im gonna go over the plug wires and make sure its timed correctly.

Okay, the theft light comes on and doesnt flash now. As soon as the key is turned to the "On" position the theft light emediatly turns off. The theft light is illuminated with the key in or out of the ignition and again, only turns off when the key is in the "On" position.

That leads me to believe its PATS, What do I have to do if it is the PATS?

This is exactly what happens when I try my non PATS key in my ignition. I bet if you went to the dealership, and had the key reprogrammed it would work.

there is SOP in the OM for programming the key.......I believe you might need 2 working keys already but I am not sure.......

Yup, if you don't have 2 programmed keys, you need the Ford scan tool to program another one.

Yeah, my bet is on the PATS, the computer would have capacitors or something to keep the information it needs stored but not indefinately. With the battery unhooked that long it probably needs reset.

I got a guy who says he knows everything about wiring and he almost garauntees he can figure it out in 30 minutes who's coming out monday. I'll see what he has to say.

Okay. I had the guy take a look at it and run a bunch of tests. We found out that the number 17 and 18 terminals are missing out of the 1999 engine harness. We had the 1999 PCM plugged in and the truck wasnt communicating with it. So we plugged in the 2002 PCM and it communicated with the truck like it should.

The 1999 truck has a seperate PATS module inside the truck, but the 2002 truck has the PATS system built into the PCM.

The 2002 truck i have has a plug in that comes off of the ignition switch with 4 wires to it. The guy who looked at it told me i could run two wires from the 2002 PCM, from the number 17 and 18 terminals(that are missing from the 1999 harness) and splice them into the PATS switch that comes off the ignition. Two wires going to the switch are a power and a ground. I forget which was which.

I have yet to try this and see if it works and theres no telling that even if it does work that all the rest of the wires from the PCM will match up.

My other, more expensive/difficult option is to locate a 2002 3.0 2WD Auto. engine wiring harness-this will for sure work but i may have to switch over a bunch of sensors and stuff but I'm not certain.

Tomorrow I will try splicing those two wires in and see what happens
