Just do a 4.0 sohc. More HP than a 5.0 anyways rev out harder too

Thanks for the suggestion! You may have changed my mind on dropping in a 302.
A built SOHC seems like more fun! :headbang:

Just tinted the tail lights with VHT Nightshades. I will get some pics up soon!

I want to know where you came up with this statement? A stock vs. stock 4.0 vs. 5.0 the 5.0 wins by a long shot

I would keep the OHV 4.0 it's nice and torquey, and re-gear to 4.56 or 4.88

re-gear... problem solved.

Sorry about the lack of updates. Funny how the comments above recommended a regear, because I am in the middle of putting 4.56's in an explorer 8.8 with trac lok that I bought for $200 at a local junkyard.

I can't wait to have disks and more oomph!

Discs and more oomph is awesome...

My mileage went up, seat of the pants factor went up, and braking abilities all increased when I went with an expo 8.8 and 4.88's. Not to mention 4lo feels like 4lo again....

Your gonna like the way it drives, I guarantee it :icon_thumby:

Depending on what the 5.0 was out of, they're pretty even. Now, if you mean an actual pre-emissions 302, yeah, you're right. I've driven a Ranger with one of those, was a member on here. It had a 5-speed, and I could roll into the throttle in 2nd going down the road on dry pavement and it would start melting the 33x12.50's. Was actually one of them high powered crate motors out of the Ford catalog. Got 16mpg.
