I've seen a lot of posts about cutting springs and the getting dream beams, which i would love to do but I'm on a tight budget. I just happen to have some Mustang LX front springs sitting down stairs. Has anyone tried to use those type before for a drop? And is it worth my time to even try?

Ya know....I.ve wondered about that myself...do it & let me know/post the results here...

I went the dream-beam route after driving with cut-coil springs for 2 years...

but there wasn't enuff spring travel on bumpy roads with cut coils...

the dream-beams solved the travel problem...but I'm still looking for "softer coil springs" for a street-truck ride (I already installed adjustable air shocks which helped a lot)

the stock mustang springs most likely wouldnt drop the truck any. only give a softer ride. the other issue is how to mount the spring to the ranger beams. the end of the spring are different. here are the specs of the stock springs (ranger and mustang)
ranger:
Coil Spring Free Height : 13.75"
Coil Spring I.D. : 3.5"
Coil Spring Load Height : 11"
Coil Spring Type : One Square End; One Pigtail End
Design Load : 1165
Spring Rate : 430
Wire Diameter : .672"
mustang:
Coil Spring Free Height : 14.71"
Coil Spring I.D. : 3.5"
Coil Spring Load Height : 11"
Coil Spring Type : One Tangential End; One Square End
Design Load : 1420
Spring Rate : 383
Wire Diameter : .625"

Thanks for those specs. the mustang springs I pulled off my LX look jut like the springs on my 94 ranger. I just don't have the tools to take the spring off the I-beams. I can see what you mean as to not lowering the truck but just giving it a softer ride. I believe ill just hold off till I get my dream beams and just use them then. Thanks again. Ill post some pics of the springs so u have a visual.
