I will be moving next summer to the Colorado Springs area and was wondering if there are any good junkyards in the area and if there are any scrap metal places. I am planning to do most of my upgrades to my ranger once I move and will most likely be parting an Explorer and looking for stuff at junkyards. My goal is to make sure I will be able to part and dispose of vehicles once I'm there. Also looking for info on good places to wheel in the area.

I'm about 45 minutes North West of CO Springs.

There's a few in Sheridan I frequent. There's Colorado Auto and Parts on Santa Fe and Radcliff. They've got the biggest yard in the area with the best prices. There's Svegals, and Jimmy there is an asshat. If you NEED a part he'll jack up the price, and he pulls everything and jacks up the price even more. They do have a ton of older cars and trucks, so some times you can get lucky and find junk yard jewles.

Most of the yards here will sell complete vehicals, but not many take them back. Your best bet for gettin rid of an exploder is parting it out on craigslist, and taking it's corpse to a metal recycling place like Westin Metals (Or Oxford Recycling) on Santafe and Oxford.

As far as wheelin, there's a ton of great low altitude spots in the springs. Tons more in the Rockies.

www.traildamage.com Great website full of CO trails, ratings, pictures, and trip reports.

You'll dig it here in the great CO

Colorado is a great place to live.If you don't mind the 65 degree weather one day and the -30 the next day it's amazing. The wheeling is all close. You get to snow bash most the year but you get 3 months out of the year that are actually hot and I mean like 100

Thanks for the info, sounds good, I'm looking for a change of pace. I have been in Hawaii for the last 3 years and am looking forward to leaving. I wanted to get all my lift and stuff done here but am waiting so my truck won't take up more space on the boat.

well, all i can say is colorado's alright. lol
but heres a list of some junkyards around Colorado.

im a fan of sidewinder auto recyl. , Colorado auto parts, u pull and pay is alright,
most places around here are company dissembled and kiinda suck at gettting the right part you ask for (ive had alot of problems with them), but theres still a few that you can find the part, most of the junkers near the city are high in price and short on parts, rangers are hard to find, but when you get outside denver metro area theres some junkers that are actually priced about right.

as far as wheeling goes i like to go up near Idaho springs and black hawk there some neet day trips, but im not to familiar with co spngs area.

heres the list (good luck lol):
