(moved) 84' XLT Project

o ok, well if its 2wd you could use your 84 as a parts truck to make it 4wd

I have some of those auxilary driving lights my buddy has, he lost the switch and the wires are f**ked up, but they still work, can I get a wire diagram and some instructions on how to install please? I wanna install em in the grill, or under the grill, or might install em for the bed and the area behind the bed, thats very useful.

Although the 84' is down, its not out!

I still have a 1/2 can of Primer, and 1/2 a wirebrush left, gonna work on the rust problems on the truck, its going through the primer, so the rust problem is worse then I though, gonna start with the smaller spots though, to be sure they dont get worse.

Might pressure wash it today for the hell of it. Mom said okay to painting the rims black, so I do not have 2 rims white, 1 primer, and 1 black =p, might buy another wirebrush (steel), and another brussled one (black) and use those to finely clean the rims before I primer and paint them, gonna remove them first though. Might be a few hour job. At any rate, I will have good looking rims XD.

Uhm, more work I am doing, gonna ask dad about parting the old truck out. Its a nice truck, sturdy (minus frame), but has a strong engine (needs some work though, but still kicken after 233,000 miles of no maintaince), good transmission, and good parts (shafts, 3 of the 4 rims, tires, front sway bar, front suspension, rear leafs [need cleaned up though], and the back shocks[looking at those to see if they are anygood]).

If so, what do you think I could get for the truck if I parted it out? I want more than the junkyard offered us for it, $500. Any ideas? Takers? Traders?

Any suggestions on work I could do cheaply or for free, thats easy on the truck to improve it. anybody want to help with the brakelines? XD

Wait what truck are you parting out?

Brake lines are easy to do, just be careful of how and where you run them.

This truck, if I fix the brakelines, and someone offers me $700, I'll sell it =P.
Its work that in parts. The engine block needs honed, but the rest just needs cleaned up. Honestly, its a good truck, minus the frame and some rust spots on the panels.

Alright with the brake lines, will do!

Looky what dad got for free at work =D
It is brand new, he is project manager, and the tools they ordered were industrial, well, they did not need a home-use one, so dad took it home! (also, he brought home 2 factory light bars for the shop, pictures next week!)

Happy 4th of July everyone! worked on a different vehicle today, for the fifth or sixth time in the last 7 years, I have worked on this gokart, I have fixed the wheel 3 times, replaced the throttle and brake cables, adjusted everything, and today I fixed the pull starter. One of the 2 keys that open out to grab the crank to turn the shaft are gone and the other fell out, will fall out sometimes still, but it runs a hell-uva lot better now.

JOBS DONE TODAY:
-Greasing
-Cleaned Air Filter
-Fixed Pull Starter
-Checked Fluids
-Hand-Tightened All Bolts

Other than that, its fun! its probably designed for kids, being that I have to lower myself onto the seat and have a steering wheel jammed in against my crotch.

The gokart has a 20 year old 5hp Briggs and Straton sports motor with a racing clutch, worn tires, and a racing seat+steering wheels. It used to have a cage on it too, but before my uncle got it for my cousin, it was removed (unscrewed from the sides and torched off).

Well, I got it running well enough that I was doing donuts around a tree, and with no seatbelt, I was just about flying off of it!

Alright update finally, here are the plans (considering I get this job so dad will let me).

1.Nab the free frame and junk from NY
2.Fab/Move body mounts to work for the Ranger Cab
3.Strip frame + repaint
4.Strip cab + repaint
5.Move everything except the bed over to the new frame

Borrowed Jason's old 70AMP Arc Welder.

And his old welding mask:

and let me use the rest of the electrodes.

Now this thing burns fast, 1 electrode will weld about 3" or so of beads =P
So this is for practice, I have never used it though, seen Jason use the MIG a lot, but today was the first time we ever for this damn thing running! haha. Suggestions?

I have the old welding trailer for practice =P can pop some beads in it to practice with then break the weld and redo it again and again.

I am asking dad about letting me store the frame and junk in the old garage, since its basically never opened and has only 2 windows.

So he does not see the junk, =P
our Japanese Kubota is in there right now:

And a Truck pic update, nothing really new, just a new pic:

Ideas? Comments? Suggestions?

Gonna remove bed, see about shortening the frame (to get rust off), going to get the BII frame on the 24th. Still lookin for a trailer!!!!

A good work space out of the weather is a HUGE plus, so I would try to do that.

Another thing to do is label all your wires take pics of them, etc to help reduce the chsnce of getting confused.

I would spray underbody protectant every where salt can get to that cant easily be washed off.

I am thinking ahead, with 2 words, body pan!

I am gonna make some brackets under the truck and install bodypans under the truck where salt can hit the frame and get inside the fenders, so I need to make some for the fender wells (after I lift her up with a 3" body lift).

The bottompan wont be able to rust, its all in material :icon_thumby:

Alright! got to work today! Found out a few parts missing here and there, and a few parts removed and replaces here and there. But here ya go!

I started down to the shop, and watched the dump truck pave the road, yes, they just jump and drive, thats it.

So I go down to removed the bench, and to prove to everyone that the driver side is shot as far as a rail, here:

Anyways, Eric Locey, a good friend from school, came over and was helping me remove the interior.

Now, I want to know what this is, its located under a panel, next to the passenger side of the cab, under the dash.

Removed that tacky ceiling carboard, had to use my pocketknife to cut around the lights and cieling unit =P Looked like new metal!

Here is the interior after we set the carpet back down:
