Motorcycle accident Brother-in-law

Whoa - Sorry man - I'll be thinking about him. My sister in law worked at the emergency room at a hospital in Austin. They called motorcycles amputation machines. They don't scare me as much as the idiot drivers on the road. I've seen three in the last week texting and driving like idiots.

Hopefully he'll be ok.

Probably flew him to Metro. The Cleveland area only has 1 level 1 trauma center and that is Metro. The only Level 1 pediatric is Rainbows. He's a lucky dude from the stand point that Metro does all the trauma's so they have the staff on hand and they know what they're doing. Saved many a person that shouldn't be with us anymore.

reading these things really wakes ya up to the dangers of riding. i currently ride a CBR600RR, and i dont like to take chances with vehicles around me. I usually ride with my high beams on during the day so others can see me. Pisses ppl off but it works. that and a loud exhaust.

I hope he pulls through stray, thats a very scary thing, and too many idiots shouldnt be on the road when they dont look for bikes. Ill be sure to ride a little more defensively because of this thread, thanks man.

Nate

loud pipes save lives...jesus saves souls (just in case)

Aggressive tactics are better for street riding, that and simply expecting people to pull in front of you.Number one rule in my book is to always have an alternative line when in traffic and to accelerate away from cars as soon as possible. Also, never never ride next to another cycle in the same lane as you have nowhere to manuever.I also think you get into a kind of hyperrealization of whats going on around you.Being too cautious is dangerous as you typically have little time to react and you had better react when necessary!Dangerous as hell but riding makes you a better driver.

I expect a guy that age knows how to ride a bike. My parents are a decade older and still ride. I worry, and I'm not sure how sharp their skills still are, but I won't blame a girl that doesn't see them. Motorcycles are out only half the year and they are much smaller visual targets for the eye. I really leave it to the riders, my aged parents included, to understand these things. The largest motorcycle (my dad rides a 1500 Nomad) is 1/3 the mass of the smallest car. My dad rides too fast, I think, but he loves his bike. I really do think he would rather die in a crash than whatever other thing will take a man his age. We've just accepted this and I will be on-hand with a snow shovel to scoop up his remains when the time comes.

A motorcycle in a world where a motorcycle isn't common is a dangerous ride. I go about 8 months a year without seeing them and then the little things start squirting out into traffic. I really can't fault a young person for not taking them into account.

I do pray for a speedy recovery, however. Just to keep the gallows in storage for the girl. No doubt but that she is traumatized.

but more seriously....like you said---we ALL have to pay attention/accept responsibility/annnnnnnd.....I would rather go doing what I loved too. And since we all scr--errrr goof up at one time or another...forgiveness makes the rest of life easier. The sorry ***************************** that ran over my son & then fled the scene----I hope he is so traumitized that he pukes his ************ guts out....but I also hope that Jesus (no...not HeySooz) cuts him some slack!!!!

Thanks everybody!! Here is an update on the brother-in-law:

Fractured pelvis, all ribs left side broken, punctured lung, broken jaw, broken nose, 100 stitches in his mouth area (from biting through his lips and mouth with his teeth) shingles in his left eye flaring up, he is still on a ventilator..... fever spiked this afternoon to 103-104, down to 99 this past hour. He is heavily sedated, but scooting around in bed. He has a good size bruise on his
left frontal lobe...... stable but not even out of the woods yet.

Man......I might have to go up there this week to be by his side and encourage him to make it.......

Do it! you'd be surprized what a few words of encourage can do (well.. YOU wouldn't be surprized-you already know!)

yes,he probably needs you there,i know hospitals are not the kind of place anyone wants to hang around, but friends and family are important in times like this

oh,and let him know of the ranger community that is concerned of his condition and prayin for him
