More Torque

You'd be going backwards with a 3.0 swap.
Downshift, you can pull the whole damn hill in 3rd if you want, it's not going to hurt it.

I'd rev over 4K up hills for a decent amounts of time with the 2.9. I hit the 5500 redline all the time and 6200 a few times, the 2.9s aren't afraid to rev, just keep them cool.

as far as cooling,i bought a 4.0 radiator and just need to go to pic'n'pull tomorrow to buy a fan shroud and a few other goodies.it's just a shame there isn't an aftermarket for the 2.9.,it's not a bad little motor.how would a swap be for the 4.2 and would it be worth it?

right on.why do some people say headers make a difference and others not?

Headers technically would make some difference, but on a stock engine it would be too little of a difference to justify spending money on... You have to start sucking in more air than stock to begin to actually justify spending the money on headers...

one more thing, how high can i rev it in 2nd?,that's the main problem.

You won't be able to rev it too high, your truck limits engine speed automatically to keep you from doing that...
