with gas prices going freaking crazy here in the states, and the neighbors to the south of me have gas at 2.64 a gallon vs 4.50ish. Its time to look in to making a mini tanker out of my truck.

I know a bronco2 tank will fit in the frame rails.think they hold 23 gallons?

heres the thing....the tank has got to feed the truck, ie be hooked up to the fuel system.

I want to keep my stock "side" tank as well.

I know some of the older ranger's came with dual tanks and had the switch, lines etc. but finding that is about as rare as finding the STX brackets.maybe even more so.....

So has anyone hooked up double tanks some how like this some how.

I would just throw a large cell in the back and call it a day, but the smog nazi's here in cali really frown on that, and Im trying to keep this as legit as possible. Ie no problems coming back across the border.

Wow, how can ANYONE want to sit for 2-3 hours in the world's busiest border crossing and give up ALL your rights, just to get a few extra tens of gallons of gasoline? So, it's cheaper. So is a bus pass.

Umm, if a B2 tank is the same size as the rear one from a dual tank ranger, then it'll be more like 14 gallons. Someone else probably knows better than I do though

Is there a limit to how much you can bring back? I got Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsements... :icon_idea:

Dual tanks, you will need to find a ranger with a dual tank setup, take the switches and and all the hookups from it. There is a pump for the seperate tank as well. Been a while since I hooked up a dual tank. I do know there is box for the two tanks to seperate the levels in the tanks, other wise your fuel gauge only sees the level in the two tanks. They have to be seperated from one another.

You could possibly run them from toggle switches as well. One toggle for the front tank fuel gauge, then front fuel pump, (2 switches), then 2 switches for the rear the same way. When you run the front tank, turn the 2 switches on and the rear ones off, and vice versa for the rear tank. These truck are computer controlled and my old F150 was not, so it worked on that one, The Ranger may not be as forgiving with that ECM.

You could do that with one DPDT swtich, and i dont think the ECM would put up much of a fuss.

I have a BII tank I'm going to add to the Ranger sitting in the garage. It is 23 gallons and already has a pump and sender. I was planning on using it as a transfer tank to the main by adding a gauge, a switch for the pump and t-ing the line into the fuel filler neck. Saves some electrical and plumbing that way. Had a friend do that with a van and the fuel siphoned on it's own and he didn't have to use the transfer pump. Some of our trails are a long way from fuel and deep into the back country. Kind of nice to have 39 gallons onboard.

where do you get 2-3 hours? And since you know so much, you would know better than to go across the busiest crossing I would think at prime time. Then again since you know everything on this subject, maybe you would go to one of the other 2 border crossings.
As for giving up all my rights, that is true. But as long as your not a jack ass or breaking law's you really have nothing to worry about.

So yes,Ill cross the border save myself a bit of money, have some dam good tacos de pesacido(or are those made out of kidnaped asian kids?) maybe stop off and play the dogs, watch a donkey show, buy some chicklets while I wait my 20 min or so in line, let the HLS dogs sniff my truck and be on my merry way to creating some more global crock of shit warming for about half price. And I can't do that with a bus pass so thanks anyway for the sugestion
And don't let me forget to thank you for anwsering my question.Don't know what I would have done with out your great wrath of wisdom.:thefinger:

hihoslvr now that I think we might have a problem getting back across with with. But since the mad max day and age is coming, I think I will add you to my buddie list on here, since you allready know who to drive a tanker..and were all the gps do dads are maybe?:headbang:

(this was a total joke for people with a sarcasitc sense of humor, please dont take this as Im asking hihoslvr to go jack a gas tanker with me)

reno, My bigest problem is finding the dual tank lines set up from a ranger.pretty dam rare like the highrider brackets.I know I will need a pick up pump out of the tank to get to the HP pump along with the return lines and all that. But I may have a sorce to have them made.Going to check in to that this week.

crbnunit thats sorta the ideal I was having too. was thinking maybe run the transfer to the EVAP port in the stock tank, then use the evap off the bronc tank to run up the the charcol canister.

anyone else got any sugestions or have te dual tank set up and can help me out alittle more please feel free to chime in.

I can tell you that the bronco2 tank will eASILY fit in the back of a LONG bed ranger.

But doing that in a shortbed or supercab? No.

I can also tell you that if you have a tank back there but no filler door on the side I hope you like cavity searches.

Being that I have a 94 Long bed & at the rear of the bed on the inside near the floor there is a hump like the one up near the front of the bed for the fuel filler hose to have clearance. Anyhow what im wondering is being that the bed has the raised hump on it near the rear ,Did any of the 93+ Long bed rangers come equipped with dual tanks?

Im in luck then as my truck is a long bed....I dont think I will have any cavity searches.I have enuff sense to not be a dick to the HLS to provoke such a thing. And if for some reason they have concerns of me smuggling contraban in my 2nd tank they have the X ray machines on spot.

I figure I will mount the filler neck of the 2nd tank something like this,as Im sure this truck made the trip across the border more than once.

Huh, my bad...I figured B2 and Ranger tanks would be the same size..probably should have confirmed that before I said anything

Nice looking truck though
