just finished putting together the 2.9 im about to put back in my truck. and i forgot which rocker arm pedistal shaft goes to the passenger side/drivers side! is it bad if i put the rong one on the rong side?! considering the threaded screws at the end of each rocker arm that sits on the pushrods? if it is bad how do i tell which is which? and if you cant tell how would i go about tightening or loosening these screws to make sure the valves and lifters are in the right sync. i dont want to get this motor in that im already going to have to adjust the timing on and just completely f*** the entire motor and snap the cam or screw anything up! :dntknw:

The rocker arm shafts are the same. How ever, how they were mounted in the heads may have created a unique wear pattern that would now make them somewhat one sided. Any money left in the budget for a new set? They run about $35 each.

no not really. i just baught the new pushrods with just about the last of the budget. im not too worried about the wear on them since there rite under the valve covers and easy to replace. but if i put them on the wrong sides will i have to adjust the valves?

You should adjust the valves regardless.

If you have new pushrods then you don't need to worry about it as the matched sets created by wear would no longer exist.

Would taking a closer look at the wear patterns help you make a better guess? I went through a box of baggies when I took a cyl head apart. It took a bunch of extra time, too. I tag stuff and match mark things. I didn't do it so much on the clutch job and misplaced a piece of speedo drive. Just as I realized something was missing , I found it. :yahoo:

How would I go about adjusting the valves? And I usually mark things I had these sitting in a place where I knew which was which but someone moved them. I'm not worried about wear just worried about adjusting

to adjust valves, you will need to rotate the crankshaft in the same direction as if the engine was running. looking from the front of the vehicle, this would be clockwise. if you have never done it before, I recommend starting at the front on one side, and work your way to the rear, one valve at a time.
rotate the crank till the intake valve begins to CLOSE, stop, and adjust the EXHAUST valve
rotate crank till the exhaust valve begins to OPEN, stop, and adjust the INTAKE valve
repeat this for each cylinder
I normally use a sharpie or paint pen to mark the rocker when im done adjusting it

So when the intake valve fully opens I adjust the exhaust to make sure the exhaust valve is completely closed?
