I wish he had been a bit more detailed in the reassembly, but it's enough to encourage me to experiment with one of the worn out FM145's I have. I notice now that there are bearings and races inside the gears on the main shaft that are not included in the rebuild kits. I would think that those need to be replaced also, but buying them separately looks like they would be expensive.
I suppose if he was clairvoyant and knew the only problem was that large bearing in the front, he could have pulled that bearing out, drove another one in and be good to go. I believe that is the one he had problems getting out and had to pull it from the front anyway.
