yeh I wish mine was a 5spd as well. but it is nice having an auto in stop and go traffic.

My Ranger has a 5 speed...but when I bought the Zuki I actually had two to choose from...a five speed or an automatic...I took the automatic and I'm quite glad I did...driving two hours a day is easier when you don't have to shift so much, but I kinda miss the Ranger...hopefully soon get to drive it again...maybe I will take it somewhere romantic to celebrate five years of not driving it...lol

Only problem I have with the 5spd is construction traffic. Which is literally stop go, stop go........

yea thats the only thing thats good i think haha

i wish i test drove a 4 cyl too, i dont even know how the ride is on it! didnt even consider it!

I swore by my 5-speed, loved it to death.

That is, until I got my first automatic. Don't get me wrong, I still love my 5-speed, but the auto is soo much nicer when you've been driving a 5-speed all day hauling materials (not talkin over-the-road here, I mean local driving in an F-350 dump with a stiff clutch). When I got home from work, about the last thing I wanted to do was jump in another 5-speed and go out for the night. Having an auto trans vehicle made a big difference there.

I have both so when I get tired of one I just switch.

If I was to buy a new truck, it would definitely be a stick. Autos are ok sometimes but worrying about when you're due for another A4LD kind of blows. When you get your clutch leg in shape it doesn't really matter anyway.

A4LD? whats that

yea the car i sold to get this truck was stick, i loved it tons of fun, but same as mentioned, i needed a change, i dreaded driving in traffic with ti every day

A4LD is the auto tranny used in a lot of RBVs

Older ones. Somewhere in the mid to late 90's they switched over to a different auto trans.

That said, I have no real complaints about the A4LD. All the ones I've had so far have treated me right.:icon_thumby:

I've had both and I love them both. When I first picked up my 03, I cursed myself for getting an auto. But I live in Seattle and now I'm thanking god I got the auto. If I still lived and worked in the country like I used to, I'm sure I would feel different. They both have there places. GOD, I cant wait to get out of the Seattle area! I'm a red neck and this shit sucks!!!

I wouldn't have anything but a manual transmission. W/ the 4.0 you can lug along at 25 mph or cruise 80 mph on the interstate all in 5th gear. Not a lot of shifting is necessary. The slave cylinder issue is kind of a shitter on the Rangers, or the manual would be dang near maintenance-free. When the next Ranger platform comes out (whatever it turns out to be), if it's not available w/ a stick, i'll go elsewhere. I'd like to have an F150, but the manual isn't available w/ 4x4, so i'm not interested. In fact none of the "Big 3" now offer manual transmissions in their 1/2 ton trucks w/ 4x4. Dodge was the last hold out and dropped the option w/ the intro. of the '09 model. :annoyed: Neither Toyota or Nissan offer manual transmissions on their 4x4 full-size trucks either (Tundra/Titan). Annoying to say the least.

Are you aware of what lugging an engine can do to the internals? It's not pretty, and that's why I would never run my Ranger (or any of my other current trucks) in 5th gear doing 25 mph unless I was in 4-lo. Actually, I think my crawl ratio might be to the point on my choptop that I couldn't even go that fast in 5th:icon_twisted:

I have a 5-speed i only buy a 5 speeds but the only down fall i notice is when your stuck up to you axles in mud or snow its alot easier to kill the truck while you tring to get out. a auto you can ease on it better and hammer when need be and not lose tire spin when shifting gears. and like everyone else said heavy traffic sucks too. but my girlfriend has a auto cavalier and we use it when leaving town most of the time, better on gas!
