mistake

Are you aware of what lugging an engine can do to the internals? It's not pretty, and that's why I would never run my Ranger (or any of my other current trucks) in 5th gear doing 25 mph unless I was in 4-lo. Actually, I think my crawl ratio might be to the point on my choptop that I couldn't even go that fast in 5th:icon_twisted:

It's fine. I know what an engine running too low in the rpm range sounds like. My bike will "clank" (piston skirt slap) if you roll on the throttle from too low of an rpm in too high of a gear. Definitely something to be avoided.

Maybe the speed I mentioned (25 mph) is too low. I'm not sure of the exact speed the engine is comfortable at in 5th, but it's fairly low. The point is the 4.0 has enough ass w/ the 4.10 axles that it's not necessary to shift constantly. In regular, docile driving on level ground, it's quite comfortable to go 1rst~>3rd~>5th.

*Update*: I drove my truck awhile ago and it pulls smoothly from 30 mph in high gear. It does good at 25 mph same scenario, but it's dang near too slow for 5th.
