I bet we can hit it. We recently had success in a joint missile defense exercise with the Japanese where we launched an ICBM (a dud obviously) at them and they were able to intercept it successfully. It was a huge step forward for the missile defense program.
It was really cool to hear about it from my uncle, who is in charge of the navy's missile interceptor program and was on board for this test.
That satellite is probably moving at about 17,000 MPH. The type of missile they're shooting can probably travel about 5,000 MPH. Not much room (time-wise) for error at those speeds...
if the reporters have correct info,it's more like 35,000 mph.perhaps makg can enlighten us.
You're probably right. I was just guessing. So....it's an even harder target than I thought!
