mismatch between bellhousing and engine block

trans is mitsubishi fm145 manual goes on the bellhousing's other end so that's fine. metal plate came from my old 89 engine block + bellhousing set. I would like to think these things (2.9l 89, 88, 87, etc) are all shaped the same and can be mixed and matched but is that a wrong assumption?..

It's been too long and I don't remember, is there a plate for manual trans to block? If so, is there a difference between manual and auto plates? I can't see why there would be, just asking.

I know there is a plate between the bell and the engine block for manuals, because it is what keeps the starter aligned with the flywheel.

However, I'm not sure if there is a difference between the auto and manual tins.

That picture sure doesn't look right, I don't remember there ever being that large of a gap without the plate. Hopefully someone else can chime in on that issue. However, that being said, if it is right (maybe the bolts not sucked down all the way), you'll definitely need the tin for a couple reasons: to keep grime out, and to get the starter aligned properly.

I was told they are different between automatic and manual And also it's one of the hardest parts to get Or find

Is it possible that your plate is for an M5OD instead of the FM145?

There going to be the same.I've experienced sometimes the plates are transmission specific starter won't go in etc.
