Brand new to the Station; I'm a longtime Ford fanatic. Currently own four of them; and dealing on another.
I'm having an issue with my Ranger. 1992; XLT; extended cab; 4.0 5 speed manual. It has 149k of almost perfect operation. (it's been pretty well cared for).
Check engine light is on; rough idle; but smooths out at speed. When the engine warms up; the light goes out for a short period of time. Then the truck bucks/jumps/backfires; and the check engine light comes back on. Truck still gets 14-15 mpg; just frustrating that I can't dx what's going on. The dealer of course; wants a minimum of $125 to hook it up to the umbilical and tell me what's wrong.
Ideas?
