mild dana 44 build thread

here's how it looks recently. after i rebuilt the rear bumper/ tire carrier after i ripped it apart pulling my buddies chevy 2500 out of some mud (successfully), taking off the body lift, adding some 35" KM2s, and picking up a color matched cap for $25. OHHH and i did all this after Coast Guard basic training last fall.

some light wheeling after i pulled the body lift.

D44 raduis arms

hey are the stock d44 radius rams forged or cast?
if they are forged then you could weld to them and extend them.

And could you please post a picture of your transmission mount and rear radius arm mount. I'd like to get an idea of what ya did to get the transmission cross member, frame andraduis arm brakets all tied in together.

I'm still deciding on whether to do a D44 TTB or SAS D44. :icon_welder:
I beat my rigs pretty hard. :icon_twisted:
My last offroad rig was an old solid axle toyota :icon_twisted: that got used for mudding, climbing and trail making (tree F*cking) :thefinger:
so whatever i decide, the internals have to be able to take some sh*t kicking

anyone have any idea how well the straight axle D44 holds up to airtime? :headbang:

I think that if i did a SAS then the axle would be moved forward a few inches for better approach angle and weight dist. :icon_welder:

If ya wanna beat on it you need no less than a 60

dang

D60's are expensive, I know where 2 straight axle D44's are, no idea on a 60. a 60 would also require a bit more :icon_welder:
and be really friggin wide

any thought on trussing and plating the d44 to improve bash strength?
