mazdamama's fullwidth 79 f150 sas build

I wheeled 37" Iroks on my rig for 8 months, stock shafts in the stock axles...Providing you have the 297's or 760 joints in your shafts, I don't think you have anything to worry about :icon_thumby:

Make sure to tack weld the u-joint caps also! Went on a wheeling trip memorial weekend with Rob (fordguy64 on here) and he spit 2 caps in 2 days, wished then he woulda tacked em!

i kind of feel like your messing with me, at first glance that sounds rediculous, but then again i could of sworn ive heard of doing this before. so are you talking about tacking the ujoint to the yoke, or u bolts?

hes referring to the u-joint at the axle shaft, and yes it a good idea to tack the cap in place so you dont loose them

I'd run Iroks before anything else, I had about 8 months use on a used pair I got (had about 75%) and when I got rid of them, they had about 40-45% left...A lot of road miles and quite a few offroad miles as well, real good tires, but they can be run backwards...

A guy I know runs a set of 38.5 Iroks on his 79 shortbox Ford. I've been out snow wheeling with the guy and he'll get into snow you think for sure he's stuck in... like snow on the grille kind of snow... and he just throttles it out and the tires hook up. It's amazing! Good choice in tire, I'd say.

Also, didn't think before I made the last post... but went out and took a pic of my axle where I tacked the u-joint cap to the yoke on the front axle. You really ony need the one tack like I've got, but having two on each cap as insurance wouldn't hurt. You'll need to do this on every cap, or it's all for naught.

wow, the b2 looks good i see your runnin your tires right too. what springs did you use to put that 60 front under there ? did you use drop perches ? or build a custom crossmember ? i neesd to just check out your build thread, but that thing looks like it has an awesome low cog being that wide with that little of lift.

Dang nice truck dude!

you still got those rims to the old f150 used for parts??? I want those!

thanks i see now, makes sense

finally welded up a tracbar mount and took her up to a trail on the end of my street. so far i bent the tierod, but everything else was working great, it still needs all the little steering tweaks figured out and everything painted and retorqued, oh yeah and shocks are pretty nice to have on the front end. and when i get around to it im making a spare tire carier in the bed, and bumpers/ sliders.
