Maverick is weird

Still outhaul this maverick thing. A truck, by definition, should be able to haul right?
-Exactly- how much should a truck haul to be called a truck? And who qualified you as the arbiter of that number?

And a fist gen has to has to be a 2wd with the camper package to match a maverick for payload.

Well, a Prairie Schooner could haul no more than 2,000 pounds. The maverick can haul 1500. OK, fine, a Prairie Schooner can outhaul a 2021 Ford Maverick. The Maverick can also outhaul a 1985 Ford Ranger. What's your point?

How many horsepower did they have?

12. They were pulled by 12 horses or mules, or 6 oxen. Oxen were preferred.

If I didn't like not having payments so much I might think about it... I did the math while driving the other day, I drive roughly 20k miles a year, at 22mpg that's nearly 1000 gallons of gas a year, and at $3.50 that's $3500 a year just in gas... I think full electric is BS and the "zero emissions" campaigns and stickers are pure lies but I'd stand behind a hybrid... going on a 900 mile drive in an electric car would suck, but a hybrid would be cheap... The Maverick would do about what I do with the '97 daily driver... I'm sure it wouldn't handle what the TIB can...

So 6 oxen = 12 horses... got it.

You can't buy an AWD truck from any other company for $26k or a base model for $20k. I may very well end up with one in a few years. I just wish an extended cab and a slightly longer bed was an option but it is what it is. I like it a hell of a lot more than the new Ranger... sorry.

There are benefits to both. I can see why you would prefer the Maverick over the new Ranger. If I didn't need the 4X4 Low, I would probably consider a Maverick myself. 90% of what I do doesn't require it and until I got into SAR, an AWD crossover served me just fine for 16 years.

I'd be interested in the maverick but with a number of modifications:
Locking center differential
Low range
Suspension lift (I'd just lower the body-side connections)

Most important of all however, as its something I can't do myself, an extended cab option with a 6ft bed.

So long as the ride height and tire size are about right from the factory, coil springs don't bother me too much.... it also wouldn't be too crazy to have an air ride setup like the GMC Denali

No one tell rusty that the maverick is more capable than his ranger by any metric, other than maybe trailer weight. And the numbers on those old rangers were never realistic anyway for safely hauling a load.

Are they making service bodies for these things? That's the market for these. I think you'll see a lot as fleet vehicles to go along with the Transit - OEMs are dropping out of that market like crazy and there are a lot of places that need trucks but don't need something the size of an f150.

I agree, I prefer it to the new ranger. I absolutely hate four door trucks, though - it's the reason I don't already have a Gladiator. If Gladiator came in an extended cab, there would be one in my driveway. Price is nice as well, but then again, it's a rebodied escape missing 1/3 of its metal 🤷🏼‍♂️

I can see the use as service trucks if you're a cake decorator, horse therapist, tree fluffer, etc. But for my use (oilfield), F350 is *barely* enough, let alone something like this.

As a daily/commuter, it wouldn't be too bad if they had a reasonable transmission. But after watching F*rd bumblefuck and hamfist the Fiesta trans, I'd rather wait to see if these will hold up.

I'd be in for one if it were available with an ecoboob and manual. But until that happens, it's Toyota or Jeep for commuter trucks, and GM or Dodge for work trucks from here on out.

I give GM a lot of shit, but both of my GM fleet trucks give me zero trouble, and my GM 6.0 embarrasses my F*rd 6.2.🤷🏼‍♂️

Heres a page from an 85 ranger brochure. Only year i can find. It was pretty easy to get a first gen to meet or exceed the mavericks payload even if by a couple hundred lbs. Thats not to mention a ranger would handle way more before breaking shit because it has a real chassis, real axle, and real suspension....

But im sure just like when i proved the new ranger was barely more capable then a 92 the excuses will fly.

Why would anyone need to 'make' excuses?

You just voice anything you want (like the above) and present it as fact. Regardless of the reality around you.

Maybe its not proven fact...but its common sense fact. A ladder steel frame and solid rear axle is going to handle loads and abuse alot better then a glorified escape.

Don't make me start pullin plug wires from the old 2.9L...
