Manual Transmissions that bolt up to a 1999+ 5.0 EFI Explorer.

screw it, I say get a c4 with a reverse pattern and a full manual valve body. Add a ratchet shifter and you can bang through gears faster than in a manual. The manual valve body with reverse pattern will make the gears go PRN123 and will lock the tranny in whatever gear you put it in and wont shift till you make it shift. The ratchet shifter wont let you shift into N-R-P while in forward gears.

Just an outside the box suggestion.

Since I can barely understand what you said do to my lack of knowlege, I think I'll stick with either the M50D-R2 or the T5.

a valve body, you can get ones that make the shift pattern go PRND123 instead of PRND321. Thats called a reverse pattern.
You can buy a manual valve body that will lock the transmission in the gear you put it into and will not upshift or downshift untill you make it.
You can buy a Reverse Pattern, Manual Valve body...to get both worlds there. This way you come out of nuetral and go to first gear.
You can buy a ratchet shifter with a reverse lock out so you dont have to worry about shifting into reverse. The ratchet shifter, IIRC, while in forward gears will only move one gear at a time up or down, preventing you from missing a gear.

There now you know.

An m5od would work best because you could probally reuse a stock ranger crossmember and shifter with no problems. I got an m5od for a 2wd f150 I'll sale for $75 if you are interested.

Not interested, as this is a long term project and I wont be starting it until I finish college.

M5OD-R2's a solid way to go. The shifter does not come up under the dash. The shifter hits the dash if you don't move it... All we did was cut the shaft underneath the boot and tip it back a little ways, and shortened it a little bit. Now it's got a good, short throw and it sits in a really easy spot to reach.
