So the A4LD is toasted in my 87 2.3, coincidentally I bought a whole donor 87 2.0 tk5 truck, same wheel base, will everything go together to swap it? I’ve read the bellhousing will fit, I know the crossmember, driveshaft, all swap over, what about the rear end will that be different? If everything will go together fine, how long of a project do you estimate? I’m pretty handy mechanically but have never done an auto to manual swap, any tips or tricks to it?

Should be pretty straightforward... rear end will be fine, no need to mess with that. You'll need the manual trans pedals of course, you can pull the dash to get them in/out...you can also remove the pedal rod with the dash installed and swap the pedals themselves, I don't know what's easier, I've done both and they both involve some swearing.

As far as time goes it really depends on how fast you work. I have done these before and would estimate a full day to tear down both trucks, and probably close to a full day to put your truck back together. Give yourself more time than that since you haven't done it before.

The only issue you should run into is you will get a check engine light for the engine not seeing the transmission, and the idle will likely be higher I think... If you look hard enough and find a '85-87 2.3L manual trans engine computer you should be good to go though...

I've never done the swap, but you likely will have everything you need.

Clutch With Slave Kit Compatible With Ranger Bronco II Base XL XLT Eddie Custom S STX 1985-1987 2.0L 2.3L L4 GAS SOHC 2.8L 2.9L V6 GAS OHV 2.3L L4 DIESEL OHV Turbocharged (Stage 1; 07-048RS) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074HBH874/?tag=959media-20

Will this clutch kit work for me? Has anyone used it? Or can anyone rec a clutch kit that includes the slave cylinder that won’t brake the bank, TIA

I thought the clutch was a difference size for the 4 cylinder vs 2.8/2.9?

I did a little bit of checking, '85 2.8 clutch is the same as '87 2.3 gas and diesel...should be fine... I was a little suspicious at first. Amazon is notorious for crap like that. "fits" but doesn't actually.
