Maaco Quote.

Maaco painted my old S10, worst paint job I had ever seen. It was full of fish eyes and orange peel.

I wanted let Maaco paint my metal mailbox.

They painted TRS-1 back in the early 90's. It looked like hell. It had sanding scratches under the pain where they didn't do any final sanding. Basically shitty prep.

I bought a compressor, sanders and spray gun, sanded the truck down and redid it myself. No runs. No flaws.

Maaco offered to do TRS-2 for free if I put their name on it. I let them do it. Big mistake. Poor prep. Sanding scratches under the finish. There was a bare area on the roof where they ran out of paint. I had to go out and buy more paint and finish spraying it in my garage the night before the photographer got here to do more work on the build up story. Fortunately the graphics I added cover the flaws. I can't believe as bad as it looked they put their logo on it.

I do my own bodywork. It's not hard if you take your time. A good paint shop will tell you what you need. Just follow the directions on the cans or paperwork they give you. Nicest part is I know I can repair the trail damage myself every couple of years to make it look good again and not have to pay a fortune.

Yeah you definitely get what you pay for. I have heard that they make all their money crappy body work. And that they won't paint something unless all the body work is done. I don't have anything experience with them however.

Oh and Shoeboy had A LOT of work done for $6,300, not just paint.

Well I think I"m gonna do it...
You pay when you pick it up right?

I just got done painting the bed and cap on my 93 ranger short. Lapis blue, I had $300 in , sealer, blue base coat, and a really nice clear coat. That was just in liquid materials, I didnt paint the inside of the bed, the cap has no side windows.
This was a sand and shoot. Through my shop and it cost me 300, no mark up, no other materials, no labor, no sand and buff, nothing. I figure Im going to have another 350 in it by the time I get the (reg cab)front done. In order for Maaco to paint your truck and get the same quality job, they are not only loosing money in mark up and materials, but would have to be working for free. Now they arent doing either of those things, where do you think they are picking it up at.
As a body man for 17 years, You get EXACTLY what Your paying for. The cheapest you might find a good to decent job would be around $2,000 but thats not a show finish. Get up in the 5-7,000 range for that. Most of the money is involved in prep, fine details, Painted graphics/2 tone colors, higher quality clear coats, and finishing quality. Only a true car buff spends this type of cash. Some of the $ is to put up with their pickyness.

Definitely show us some pictures after you're done. I personally would only have a MAACO paint job done if I didn't have a place to do it and just wanted something cheap to cover primer and dents.

Right now I am doing a paint job by hand with all Duplicolor metallic spray paint. Looks like factory if you spend enough time on it. Last like factory? Don't know, will see :)

I'll post some pictures like I geuss next week.
I'm taking it down Friday on lunch break.
Then probably getting it back sometime before
Thanksgiving.

I dropped off the truck today, my hopes went down. haha
They said there is no warranty on the paint for 2 reasons.
A) I did my own primering.
B) I did the body work.

When they said that I was thinking, okay, now it probably
will look like shit cause they don't have to worry about a
warranty situation......
I'll take pics and describe the paint in details when I get it
back next week.

dude I can some rattle cans. I can have you your truck back in 2 days. Il give you a 6 month warrenty on it also.

While I would never have a Maaco paint job done (I know people who paint) I bought a truck with one and it looked pretty good. Didn't have any sand scratches and they did a good a good tape job.

that must be the shop were the ceo of maaco works because ive never seen a maaco job look that good.

I painted a IH Scout with a brush one time. Put a sun lamp on it to heat up the medal. Brushed it on. Looked pretty good, even tho it was John Deere Green. No it wasn't great but it did shine.

Do you for a minute think that all these people in all these different states have an attitude about Maaco? One state I might say maybe, but look at where everyone is. I know what opinions are like buuuuutttttt. If nothing else you should have called the BBB and see what they had to say.

I see your in MD, where in MD and what shop are you taking it too?
I use to know some people who painted for them and they seemed like pretty good guys too. Yhe operative words there are "Use too".
For 7-800 bucks your barely paying for supplies. I almost passed out when I got the bill for 1 quart (75.00) for something I was working on and that wasn't anything fancy nor did that include clear coat.

If I'm going down the road and see flying silver paint flakes at least I'll know who it belonged to.

I took it to the Aberdeen one off of Rt. 40.

I just picked it up :)
It looks amazing, pics will be up soon :)

I am glad it turned out good for you. I have a feeling it won't. Just my oppinion agian. But I hope it does stay looking good for you.
