I was taking apart my M5R1 tranny to rebuild it, and in the 5th/reverse area, three pieces of metal, about 3/4 in. long fell out. I believe it was when I was removing the countershaft gears. These pieces of metal were obviously machined, and not metal shavings of anything. They also have a groove in one side and are rectangular in shape. I was hoping that somebody could identify the pieces and tell me where they go so that when I rebuild the transmission I can put them in the proper location. If it would help, I can add pictures later. Thanks for your help!

They sound like the keepers. I don't think that's the right name, but I can't think of the right name right now.

There should be several sets of them. They go around the gears, to hold something with the syncros I think.

For future reference, when asking for a part ID, pictures are extremely helpful.

Adsm08 is right they are kind of a [ shape they sit in the hub that the syncro slides on, they are what gives the slider hub the "click" or detent that they have

Here are couple pics of the part that I'm talking about. Please let me know what you think. There are three of these.

also...

Also, this part in the picture with the green wire I'm having trouble identifying. Any chance that you could help me with that, too? Thanks again!

Yup, now I'm sure those are the keepers. Look around the speed gears on the ouput shaft, you will find them eventually. Then look for the missing ones.

The other part you pictured is one of two things. There is a sensor for Reverse lights and one for the shifter in neutral. They both screw into the top plate, roughly opposite each other, and I can never remember which one goes on which side, not that I can really tell which side I'm looking at anyway.

The neutral switch is just to make it idle a bit smoother at a stop. The reverse light switch is obviously for the high beams... I mean reverse lights.

If you only have one switch on the top plate it's for the backup lights.

Just an update... the "keepers" are called synchro keys. This it's about the best parts list I've found for the transmission. Also, I needed some extra pieces that were not in a general rebuild kit. Cobra Transmissions had everything at literally a fourth of the price as the Ford dealer. Thanks again for your help!

Yes, I love Cobra trans. I have been looking for a front output yoke for a 1354 case, you can get them from Ford still for like $200, I paid $52 shipped from Cobra.
