I have a M50DR1 trans and I havent seen the thing for four years and was wondering if this trans has a top plate that comes off to get inside and look at the gears.

Yes there is a removable top cover

Yes there is a large removable cover, the FM-146/145 also have removable pans on bottom as well as a top cover.
