m50d-r1 stuck in gear

if the transmission is in 2 gears at once the wheels will be completely locked up.

I think that is what is happening when he says "I let the clutch out and it feels like it is trying to go forward and backward at the same time" but when he thinks he has it in neutral, up in the air, its still in a gear and the wheels start moving.

maybe. but if there are 2 gears engaged the wheels will not move at all. it will kill the engine

the OP needs to do the test a suggested then we can have a much much better understanding of the problem

Sorry it took me so long to get back, I have to use my computer @ work since I don't have one at the house, Finished pulling trans saturday, throwout bearing sounds awful when I turn by hand, that's about all I had time to mess with because I had to do the brakes and oil change on the wife's firebird. When I posted the info about trying the trans/clutch w/ the truck on jack stands I guess I wasn't clear about a couple of things, first of all when I got out of the truck to check how I was aligned to my ramps, I left the truck running in neutral climbed out and was checking the ramps and the truck started to creep forward and kill the engine, now this wasn't like it rolling down hill, more like in gear and idling. When I tried the trans/clutch with the rear wheels off the ground in neutral the wheels didn't slowly start to spin when the clutch was released, they went immediately up to speed. Thanks again everyone

Well just for shits and giggles I pulled the top cover off the trans last night to see what was going on. The front seal was leaking a bit, but what was troubling to me was the input shaft was WAY to sloppy. The gears looked alright and the 1st/2nd syncro moved back and forth freely, as did the 5th/rev. The 3rd/4th was another story, could move it into 3rd okay but only randomly get it to engage the 4th gear. Also, when I did get it into a gear other than 4th the input shaft would lock up. The main shaft would rotate if I had all the gears disengaged, as well if I got it into 4th.... Think I'll put butter on it cause it looks to be toast. I'm hunting around here for a used trans or better yet a 4x4 with a sick engine, hard to find 2wd 2.9's around these parts, thanks for the help everyone.
