LSD for an 08 Ranger XLT


Ok, good to know. I knew that a locker would do that a lot, but I wasn't sure about the limited slip. Guess I'll just have to figure out how limited the slip really is.

The axle is locked as tight as the clutches will hold. It is limited by that and then it slips.

7.5's had limited slip as well (for a long time all you could get was a 7.5)

I would get a set of snow tires, toss in some weight and go from there. If you are already getting decent snow amounts then you will get good usage out of them, find another set of rims and just switch with your current tires summer/winter.

When I drove my Ranger on the street in the winter, the rear would float around in slush without weight. I just threw one 60lb sandbag over each rear wheel and it made a world of difference... and that was in a 4wd.

I have been watching craigslist for snowtires for several years for my F-150, it is rare to see any on there in my area that are not car tires... and everybody is very proud of them.
 
I'll start looking. Definitely throwing some sand in this weekend. I'm in Baltimore, MD, so it's not like we get feet of snow (usually). However, the winters have had some decent accumulation, so I want to be prepared. Snow tires sound like a great idea, the only problem is finding a place for the alternate set in my 309 sq ft apartment! I guess if didn't need to haul anything, I could just throw the spare set in the bed, I have a locking bed cap...
 
I have 3 fleet trucks identical to what you have. an incredibly stout little truck they are.

They are terrible in the snow no doubt about it... but there is no way i would want a limited slip or locker in them. they tend to get sideways in the snow easily as is and a locker or limited slip only enhances this.

No doubt about it winter tires hands down would be your best first purchase. most tire stores or dealerships will store the tires you are currently not using if you buy from them.

Your next best bet would be 2-300lbs in sandbags in the rear. This would cost less and be more effective than a diff ever would.
