I looked in the engine forums and found the 4 cyl forums, but those are for rangers, I just got a call from my friend that has a 4 cyl 1.9 Escort, and he pulled a code (he did not say what the number was) but when he looked it up the book says "Low voltage Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF). What is this? Does he have to remove and clean it? or replace it? The car does not have the CEL on, he just got it and used my code reader to pull codes. This is the only code the car has, he says it runs smoothly, just does not want any problems popping up on him if he can help it.

Sorry I know this is a Ranger Forum, hopefully someone will know, I have been thinking of buying an Escort myself for a daily driver for some time now.

I'd try picking up some MAF cleaner and see what that does and also check any of the wires going to and from the MAF. Sounds like it more than likely need to be replaced.
