Low compression in 2 cylinders.. ::sigh::

cracked 3.0 heads are somewhat common but not as common as the 2.9/4.0, google 3.0 cracked head and you will join the club

i still havnt seen any 3.0 heads crack on an engine with a properly maintained cooling system.

my "theory" on 3.0 head cracking is this:

for some reason, ford has a very poor cleaning practice for the 3.0 block. the casting abbrasives are often left lying in the bottom of the block. these contaminants cause the coolant to gum up and turn black prematurely. this, coupled with poor cooling system maintainence, causes hot spots and eventual cracks in the heads.

ive seen some very nasty 3.0 cooling systems that didnt lead to cracked heads. but of the few cracked heads ive personally seen, all had the infamous "black goo" in the recovery bottle.
