2.3L ('83-'97) Loud popping while cranking

I’m at a standstill for info as I’m not allowed to post anymore forums about the same thing. Although no one has been responding to questions on this forum for over 2 weeks.

Anyways, I have a feeling it’s something to do with the actual truck and not the engine. May have been something I messed up when I reinstalled the engine. Not sure. However I’m taking a small break from it, due to being busy with other projects and everything. If anyone had any ideas on what all it could be, please comment.

Thanks!

You haven’t posted an update to this thread, what further steps have you taken since we suggested several things on the previous page? We are not mind readers.

I’m still having the exact same issues as before. After replacing the harmonic balancer. Not sure how else I could explain that.

Well, you didn't say that you replaced the balancer. Did you swap out the crank sensor, I assume it was damaged from rubbing on the bent balancer?

Have you verified that your timing marks are lined up correctly? Fuel pressure is within spec?

Timing marks are lined up, has the correct fuel pressure too. The crank sensor wasn’t damaged entirely, just a little scraped up.

I’m doing an injector test tomorrow afternoon and seeing if my injectors are clogged due to sitting with old fuel in them
