Loud popping noise on driver's side

Ok The other day I was leaving and I heard this loud popping noise come from somewhere on the drivers side. This was first thing in the morning. It also did it today when I left school to come home it did it then. This is not a problem that is happeening alot. I haven't been able to pin point it yet. any ideas.



Also, I have some kind of chirpping noise kinda sounds like it's at the slideing back glass some times it sounds like it's somewhere on the drivers side, sometimes it sounds like it's on passenger side of truck. any ideas on this too. Thanks in advance

Well, anything loose in the suspension, driveline, or steering can do that. You can try to narrow down the conditions under which it happens, or just inspect everything.

My former Bronco II once did that -- on bumps with a lot of side to side motion -- when one of the front stabilizer bar bolts worked loose. The Prizm did it once on turns when a driveaxle died.

This happens when I start to pull away. I haven't checked to see if thing are loose underneth I'll be doing that tomorrow cant crawl under truck because of snow on ground.

Just once? Take a good look at the radius arm bushing and it's plastic spacer.

That is, if you're SURE it's in front.

Also take a good look at the engine mounts.

If you're in 4WD, try it in 2WD (I'd suspect a hub or U-joint if it goes away).

02 Ranger does not have radius arm bushings but check for a broken sway bar link. Make sure you tell you mechanic to actually pry on them to check. Because of their design, they can look ok because they usually break between the bottom bushing and lower control arm and can be hard to spot because the link will still be hanging there on the sway bar. It would be better if you could elaborate on what exactly causes the noise to occur braking, on turns, etc.

If it only does it when turning, it could be a CV joint.

Could be...but is this a common issue with fords? I have never replaced one or fond one to be bad. Maybe just good luck? I know that a broken link is more common for this type of complaint

Well I think I have it narrowed down a little more. When I'm driving and put on the brakes and i'm stopped and I push on the pedal hard after I've stopped then take off that's when I hear the popping sound. Sorry I couldn't give more info before this just started the other day and I haven't been able to pin point it.

Brake calipers like to stick on all Fords that have the slide in caliper hold down pins, not much to do except replace old rusty pins, clean rust from calipers, and use caliper grease on the areas where the calipers touch the spindles. DO NOT get grease on rotors or pads

02s have CV joints, it sounds like a CV joint to me.
