I have a 94 Ranger and a 98 Escort. I have lost my keys to both of them. Is it possible to have a key made that will fit without changing all the loscks?

a good locksmith will be able to make you a new key from the door.

they make markings in a key blank and file it until it works

a dealer can cut one from the vin if the locksmith can't get it..

There used to be a number on the passenger side door lock barrel. If you take the lock to a locksmith they can usually cut a key from the information on it. Take the vin numbers with you also, they might ask for them. Couple of years ago it cost twenty bucks doing it that way. If the locksmith has to come to you it will be more expensive.

Negative!

Key code availability to the dealer through FMCD only goes back 10 years and even some 2001's aren't available anymore!

As stated above, a GOOD locksmith can cut a custom key on site and general cost from the one we use is $50.

You cannot remove the cylinder easily from the steering column on either. The door locks on my truck use a different tumbler, with a round headed key instead of the square head for the ignition lock.
I can't remember if the Escort used different keys for the door and ignition, but if they didn't, a locksmith can create a key for both using the door cylinder. Just remove the inner door panel, disconnect the linkage, and pull the 'blade' holder rearward to release the cylinder. It will then 'maneuver' out the hole in the door.

That sucks cause for a scooter. One lock smith wanted 182 bucks for new ignition keys... Gl... Always have a check list wherever you go. That way when you lose something you can narrow down place or time or both. I have wallet/cellphone/keys/steroids... I mean... Nvm...

Good news!!!!!!!!!! I found the keys. Where were they.... in the Escort trunk!!! I imdeiately went and made 5 coppies of each key so I have plenty of spares!!
