This is. 1994 ranger with the 2.3 motor.

The other day i put my heat on and its cold. I watched the coolant and its flowing in the rad, both upper and lower hoses get hot and the temp gauge reads accordingly when the thermostat opens.
My heater core hoses stay cold, i saw there was a sensor or a solenoid inline on the heater hose. What is this and can it be stopping my coolant from entering the heater core ?

Thank you or your help.

Well after reading a bit i burped the system then started getting hot water to the heat hose IN but not through the return hose. I checked in my dash and can see the temp adjuster working so i think i now have a clogged heater core.

The in hose gets pressurized and the return stays limp. My hoses have the symptoms of during and after viagra use

Well, never heard it put that way but interesting.

As long as you are sure both hoses are clear I agree it is probably the heater core. :icon_thumby:

I had an old Dodge Dart that didn't produce heat. I had a garden hose that was cut off. Disconnected both hoses at the firewall. Connected the garden hose to one side. Turned on the water and waited till the water ran clear. You can connect to the other side and flush the opposite direction.

Yes, there are many videos on-line about how to Back Flush a heater core, and it does work.
My heater got cooler over the years, it wasn't sudden, I back flushed it a few times and it always got better but never back to Full HOT.

On my '94 ranger with a 4.0l a new heater core cost $28 and only took about 15 min to swap out, I always thought it involve "pulling the dash" so avoided it, but on this model it is quite easy.
There are four 5/16th head screws facing down behind/under the glove box, you sometimes have to remove a "feltboard" cover and let it lay on the floor.
Remove the 4 screws and plastic core cover will come off.
Remove heater hoses from engine side of firewall
Remove core, might want to have a towel under it because you do need to tip it a bit to get it out.
There is some "peel and stick" weather stripping around the core, you can just transfer it if it's not to brittle or add some new stuff or don't use any at all, up to you.
Put in new core and reassmble.

I used a hose to fill core with coolant before I put on the heater hoses, just to make pushing the air out easier for the waterpump.

Um, it sounds to me like the heater core bypass valve is stuck closed.
