Another post about my 2.9L ranger. I recently baught this truck and drove it roughly 300kms. all highways miles. On all the hills I couldn't keep my speed up over 100km/h. It currently has 31" tires. I'm assuming it has 3.73's for gearing but i'm not sure as the tags on the diffs are gone. Is that about reasonable for this motor with bigger tires to be so gutless on rolling hills?

Mine is a re-build with normal 15" tires and i have a hard time keeping it over 100km/h up hills in 4th gear. Unless there is something else wrong with mine, I'd say your doing fine. Also, what kind of fuel mileage are you getting? On the highway I'm lucky to make 400km on a tank.

I did have an '89 2.9 4x4 31"s, that would be THE gutless wonder of the world, if I didnt dump some inj. cleaner in every tank or 2. I've had others that run fine w/out it, but I've since been using prem. gas in all my vehicles.

yeah i seemed to get around 350-400kms to a tank. So it's not just mine then. Thats good. I thought it might need an overhaul or something dramatic. I guess new gears it is.
