My 88 2.9 is doing the same. I'm looking at a possible cracked head. I'm going to do some tests first but UV dye was used in the antifeeze and it lit up around the rear plug (right side) of engine. My leak problem was getting worse so I parked the truck. I had a thermostat housing leak also but not bad.
