My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Seriously, I almost traded it even swap for a 95 4wd Ranger 4.0l/5spd/ standard cab standard bed….. would’ve done it too if it hadn’t been for the shady way the guy was acting and he couldn’t produce a title. And I’d rather have a full size anyway.

What years and engines (only full size trucks) did Ford use that 2 piece spark plug? I’m looking to be as simple as I can get in my budget so that most likely going to be pre 2008. Really want an F150 with a 4.6l….. as long as it can tow 7,000 pounds.

I used a 2004? F150 with a 4.6 to tow my siding trailer. Never went over a scale with it but a similar trailer with similar tools was north of 7000. It towed it OK but I always felt it was working hard on the small hills we have. The 5.4 felt better. But I would use a 4.6 again if necessary. I still have the truck. I lost a cylinder. Not sure why, never looked into it. May be something simple...

I didn't like towing with my 4.6l. Though I later found out that my Ranger was a lot heavier than I thought. Ranger was over 5,000lbs and I had it on a 20ft car trailer. So I was probably towing between 8k and 9k lbs. Anyway. Mine was a 97 and I was told that was prior to the spark plug problems. Personally, I would want the 5.4l and 3/4 ton platform for better brakes.

It's a moot point for me. I found an 02 Superduty 7.3l powerstroke.

Look around....you might be able to find an early (2011-2014) 5.0 truck in decent shape for a sane price. Then you avoid the 5.4 headache and have something that will tow much better then a 4.6.

But really any post 03 5.4 is going to probably have issues with either the plugs or cam phasers. The 99-03's were the plug shooters.

I’m not really concerned with going slow towing. I drag 7k+ all the time with the 4.7l in my grand Cherokee (including a trip back from California with a square body Suburban on a U-Haul) and after the problems I’ve had with the 5.4l in my son’s 2002 F150, I’m not really interested in that engine. The towing I do with the JGC is what I would be doing with a 1/2 ton. But I really really want to be done with the ram. I’m $3k into fixing the death wobble….. everything in the steering and front suspension has been replaced except the axle. 2 times to a big rig shop…. 1 time to the dealership, 1 time to a guy that specializes in Dodge death wobble…. And even to the community college auto shop program. And I’m not buying another 250/2500 unless it’s a 2wd…..

What about a early 2wd 6.2 superduty? I bet you could find a fleet xl truck pretty cheap

Sold the Ram. Now I need a replacement.

The 6.2l doesn’t use the 2 piece plug?
No i dont believe so.

It does use 2 plugs per cylinder though. Ateast my 17 does. I assume they all do.
