I purchased one of these for my build... note thou 83 isn't the same but your 86 should work...

they changed the top size for the fuel sending unit hole size from 83, the one i got from lmc didn't work with the 83 sending unit. had to get a sending unit from bronco2 and that fit.

thank guys . i now reside in florida , clearwater, having a hell of a time finding a gas tank to fit 86 ranger .new one they cal for doesnt fit it is a 17 gal versus my 15.2 and the fuel pump doesnt line up either .looking for something that will work. thanks captainlou

Good luck. The 15.2 gallon tank in the 108" WB 4x4 is made of unobtainium. Nobody in the aftermarket tooled one up. 17 gallon tank won't fit without modification due to the transfer case being in the way. I'd love to have another one for my truck because the inside of my tank isn't very pretty, but I haven't gotten lucky enough to find one yet. Will most likely wind up buying a 17 gallon tank and cutting/modifying it to fit.
