Locker VS L/S Vid From August...

and a l/s is more money than a lunchbox type locker, and costs more to install. So why fool around?

why would you compair them there to different things, the locker is for hard off road use the ls is not.its just a little better then a open diff....cool vid though

Because some people insist on LS for offroad, so I thought I'd show that they aren't hardly any better than open, thats all.

I have a l/s in my 2wd and a welded diff in my 4x4. If they had the same tires they would go exactly the same places in 2wd. My l/s is packed with extra friction plates so it makes it sorta custom, but none the less it has NEVER only spun 1 tire. Id dosent matter if it is a 3ft mud hole or spinning on dry pavement. Never ever ever ever has it spun one tire. And when I spin them on the pavement the black marks are exactly the same color and length. This is with 33x12.50 mts. Some l/s are junk, mine is definatly not.
My personal experience anyhow. Oh the GT also has a l/s never any trouble out of it either and it cuts a wicked doughnut on dry asphalt.

When you put it in 4wd it DOES route power to ALL wheels, when in auto (2hi) mode it will route power to the front if the rear slips... I've also owned an LS with clutchs still within spec and it slipped just as much, my friends cherokee also has an LS, also slips like no tomorrow, watch my heep vs B2 video, cherokee instanly stopped and spinning at the bottom of the hill where I walked right up in 1st gear 20 seconds before. Face it, LS's suck for off-road, they belong on the street, not the trail.

Your right....but your thinking of newer control trac vehicles. I believe 97+ explorers have the 2wd auto feature your talking about where the transfer case is always reacting to slippage, even when 2wd is selected, hence the "auto". Ever try to do a burn out in one of these vehicles??? In saying this, when you select 4wd, it is actually locked in.
On 95-96 explorers, they dont have 2wd auto....its straight 2wd, 4wd, and 4 low. In this design, the 4wd acts more or less 2wd until slippage occurs. The front end doesnt put down much, if any torque until the rear tires slip, which results in the GEM module telling the transfer case to momentarily lock. You can feel the clunk from the front end kicking in. Ever heard of the "brown wire mod"? Ask me how I know this....I own vehicles with both designs....you can verify this at explorer4x4.
The reason I brought this up was because the explorer in the video looked to be a 95-96, which would mean it has the 4wd system I am referring to. I am in no way doubting the abilities of your b2, but in fact acknowledge and respect its offroad capability. Lockers are by far better offroad. Just wanted to state that it wasnt a fair comparison. Now if you were to compare yours with a b2 that has LS, it would be a different story....

His rig is a 97 or 98... And yes he wants to do the brown wire mod, he actually told me to spin the tires since hes never had the pleasure of doing so :D I still think this comparison is plenty valid, I think me going up with crappy tires really drives home the point that it's not always tires but lockers that help more, and longer wheelbases are generally better for hill climbs and I bet they weigh nearly the same (My rig is 4000LBs).
