Spare set 400 miles away. Have to be at work Monday. Tomorrow ( Saturday ) I could call a locksmith but finances dictate I try a less expensive method. Are the 89's included with the " You tube " videos and the antenna trick ? I'd rather try a slim jim if I can locate one. Anyone know if the slim jim will work on this 89 Supercab Ranger ? I feel really stupid right about now...

:icon_confused:

back sliding window? mine is busted so i usually get in from there. if not you better try to pry the door back and get something to pull on the door handle with

I don't know about the You tube tricks, but I know years agao when I locked myself out of my 89 BII, I used a coat hanger to unlock it. Took a little bit of "fishing" but it worked. I would assume this would mean the slim jim would work, but I have never used one before.

It's a pretty simple lock mechanism.

Do you have dog-ear windows? If you do I know another trick that you might be able to use, but you will need access to an older vehicle as well.

antenna trick thats all im going to say. since its not good to talk about it publicly. just google it.

+1000 I has used it a few times myself.:icon_thumby:

*EDIT*
If you want to know how to slim jim it, PM me.
Lol I dont think posting it here is good...
I lock my keys in my truck MULTIPLE times a month, and after a few times, slim-jimming becomes like riding a bicycle.

But, be ready to provide proof of insurance or photo ID to the cop who WILL see you doing this. Haha, Ive been questioned many times.

My 88 can be opened in about thirty seconds with a coat hangar down the window jam...just look at the lock. bend the coat hangar to make a U shape at the end...and feed it in to where the lock is...fish around a bit and tug upwards...bound to get the latch and open the door...

Oh, and another method would be to try another Ranger key...very likely to open another Ranger of the same year...

I always carry a spare in a magnet holder on top of the frame...well, I used to...:)

the antenna trick won't work on first or second gen ranger as far as I know.

I've done it on 3'rd and up for buddies that have locked there keys in, but the holes on my first gen and second gen parts truck are too small to fit.

That's true. There were only about 8 combination of teeth and tumblers used.

It's really common to find a key from another truck that works in yours if you have the same lock style.

Whenver I got to a new junk yard I check my door keys in all the old Rangers and B2s and if they work I look for door keys in side the truck.

I can unlock any vehicles with 3 tools in under 1 min.. I work for a tow truck company and it is so easy its not funny ,but i am not telling how to open any car..

Cant use your air bag and long reach on a Ford Focus in less then one minuet. The doors on them cars dont flex at all. And your air bag and long reach dont work on BMW's very well either.

My 97 is the same way. about 30 seconds of fishing with a coat hanger and it is open.

Really not trying to be a smartass but once you get back into your truck, drive thee to a hardware store and have them cut an extra key for you on the spot. I locked myself out of my truck too many times and now carry an extra in my wallet wrapped in an emergency $20. The $20 keeps the sharp edges from wearing holes in your wallet and whenever you screw yourself over by locking your keys in your truck, reach into your back pocket and whip out that extra.

Cheap insurance against screwing yourself over and peace of mind. Pretty sure your '89 does not have keys with the chip in them but if for some reason you do, just get the regular kind of key. In the event you need it, you'll just need to get in the door, not start it.

Good luck w/ your truck, man.

remove the front quarter panel, and then remove the door panel (might be a little tricky), and just open the door from there =P, or smash in a window.
