My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
The data is from the 96 I just bought. The seller said it needs an o2 replaced.. I think it might just be totally missing.. not sure.. sounds like it could be lol.

Trying to figure out a slight off-idle miss that it has.. plugs are pretty brand new looking autolites, wires look just as new (unsure of brand), Motorcraft coilpacks that have been there awhile. It's a super slight miss and happens just off idle.. nice and smooth during acceleration and cruising.

Data is at an idle after a 3-4 mile drive. I remember the short term fuel trims bouncing around pretty good in either direction of the # in the picture.. is there any discernible info here?

No one... NO ONE has ever been as big of a help as you just were 😋

I'll also add... DUH that a vehicle won't run right without all its o2s.. and that would naturally mess with trims and such.. I've just never driven something thats run so wierd because of bad sensors before so it has me wondering.

The short term should switch either way a few percent, that's normal, mine flops around up to 20% at times and it runs reasonable (the '97). I changed the pre cat O2 sensor about a year ago since it'd given me a fuel trim code a couple times, it was hard starting sometimes so I changed fuel injectors, didn't change much but the gas mileage went up... I'm up to right around 25mpg (4x2 extended cab manual 2.3L) summer and around 22-23mpg winter with car tires and 4.10 gears with 28" tires...

If it's been a while since the O2 sensor has been changed (mine was still the stock Motorcraft at like 190k miles at that point) wouldn't hurt to start there, the dumb connector is directly behind the valve cover even though it's 2' from the sensor... just to save you a couple minutes :). From there wouldn't hurt to check the timing marks on the aux pulley or just change the timing belt...

Running 170 is normal even though the thermostat is 192... the coolant temp sensor is in the heater line and the core is probably plugged some (mine is, but I'm not goin to take 4 hours to change it, I have other things to do, part of why I didn't want a '95-97...). I chased that monkey and lost, I just zip tie a cotton rag in front of half the radiator for the winter when it's consistently under say 65... works great.

Mine has a random miss around idle here and there, I imagine the valves are a bit recessed which happens, it doesn't stall and still gets good mileage go I just deal with it... maybe run some fuel injector cleaner through it, keep an eye on oil consumption as oil can do odd things in combustion...

Right on thanks for the info! Starting with that o2 will be my first step.. only one code being thrown and its for that sensor so well see what happens.
